As well-meaning publishers try to navigate the coming storm of state laws against diversity, I hope they'll consider Timothy Snyder's Rule #1 (from his slim book ON TYRANNY).

The thing I can't stop thinking about is this: I'm 48, and in my adult lifetime there has been one Republican who won the popular vote. But I will probably spend the rest of my life under the authority of a Supreme Court dominated by hard right conservatives. How is that democracy?

March 23 1933, the Enabling Act becomes law in Germany, giving the chief executive power enforce his own laws without checks and balances. The passing of the Act marked the formal transition from democratic republic to totalitarian dictatorship. 6 months later, it was a 1 party state.

reflecting on the immunity decision a bit, what the Court seems to be saying is that every element of the executive branch is at the President’s disposal, no matter what he wants to use it for. his motives don’t matter. the office is a weapon to be wielded however he sees fit.

So if Joe Biden declared today that November’s election is canceled and ordered the military to keep him in power, would that be an “official act”?

Absolutely wild that the court accuses the dissent of "fearmongering" with "extreme hypotheticals" when the actual basis for the indictment is a coup attempt that led to an attack on the capitol

The worst sort of bad faith from the bench. No one believes courts are better than scientists at identifying “safe” levels of pollution, or the extent of worker’s rights protections enshrined in a statute, or anything else. This is a tool for chaos that will empower corporations to harm Americans.

There is a *very* sharp paragraph in Justice Kagan's dissent in Loper Bright on the dance this conservative majority has performed repeatedly to weaken liberal precedents en route to overturning them altogether -- on worker's rights, on the Establishment Clause, and on voting rights.

Study of the top 5 newspapers found "144 articles focused on either or both Biden’s and Trump’s ages or mental acuities in the period studied, with 67% focused just on Biden’s age or mental acuity and only 7% on just Trump’s." It's clear bias, but we haven't been beating that drum for generations.
