Lenacapavir did so well at preventing HIV infection that it hit the threshold where the only ethical thing to do was stop the randomized trial and immediately offer it to literally every participant. That's huge news. www.npr.org/sections/goa...

I get why this is the case, but it’s so wild that one million Americans died of COVID because of Trump’s handling of the pandemic, and it’s not even remotely an issue in this election. What a country!

The GOP push to destabilize the 2024 election has already begun, with lawsuits filed in a host of states around familiar Trump talking points: mail-in ballots, supposed voter-registration fraud, etc. “This is how you build a story that enables political interference in the post-election process." 🎁

Once this whole thing is done with, we all need to have a very serious talk amongst ourselves about ageism because some of the folks on here who've REALY been into the discourse who would absolutely not survive a meeting with h.r. if they said these things about an elderly coworker.

Reason 3 *wearing both hats* Ageism is rife in US culture. It causes real harm. One of my most recent publications was with experts in how ageism causes harm. For people to double down when I tell them this is both ignorant of scientific findings and unconscionable. Please get a hold of yourselves.

The whole ass CBC who people were just touting as the deciders clearly said she’s the pick of it isn’t Biden. Claiming “nobody” wants her at the top of the ticket is wild as hell. Black women, who people were just touting as the backbone of the party would vote her. What are we doing here?!

Hey! Remember Republicans saying "Obamacare will make death panels to kill your grandma!"? Then you should probably go check out chapter 14 of the Project 2025 manifesto. Because every Conservative/Republican accusation is a confession.

Among these, I always get stuck on the Senate filibuster. It did not exist in any form while the Framers were alive. The current form, in which a Senator can stop a bill permanently without doing anything, did not exist until the 1970s. But it's treated as sacrosanct.

Seven times between 1801 and 1869 Congress changed the size of the court, going from a low of five justices in 1801 to a high of ten in 1863. In most of those cases, as in 1801 and 1863, the size went up and down in order to fix an imbalance or overreach by the Supreme Court. My latest

Still, it is what it is, and the only thing that matters is we collectively put those fascists upside down in the trashcan where they belong, and only then put in the work towards an election that's, well, an election, and not Yet. Another. Fucking. "police state fascism? [yes/no]" referendum

It is fully okay to vote for the NLRB board being able to protect unions and the FTC to keep all our grocery stores from being owned by the same entity. You don’t have to like the goddamn candidate.

People vote for candidates that they don’t like. If your rule is “no, you also have to like them, and I will angrily insist you do so” you are telling people they shouldn’t vote for a candidate they don’t like. Nobody has to like a politician.

I don't get it when people point out that Project 2025 is "nothing new." Yes, obviously, right-wingers have been fanatics for decades. They were blowing up abortion clinics and shooting doctors when I was a kid. But, as you may have noticed, their political vision has kind of been coming together.

Giving up hope is also complying with authoritarians in advance. It’s saying that fascism is inevitable, that there is no other way to be. I know it’s hard to keep hope alive, but I hope you find a way. ❤️
