It’s also striking that most of the prosecutors to hold Trump to account have been POC. Very strong “we didn’t get the memo about different tiers of justice” energy. Almost everyone else acts like the social fabric of the nation will fray if a high end criminal is held to account

one of the repeated problems i have talking politics offline is the prevalence of the argument, "trump is just doing in the open what they do in private" it's hard to counter because it's right in like 20 cases and wrong in 10,000 and the 10,000 times nobody does anything makes it seem reversed

If I'm Trump, I immediately file a motion that today's sudden change in the amount and deadline proves the entire thing is arbitrary and baseless, and demand they throw the whole thing out. I think he'd be correct that none of this is based on set rules or laws anymore.

You're really going to pretend this case isn't extremely unusual? Nothing about him is normal, nothing. Our legal system is messed up yes, but this is Not the usual, and it's not directly the system's fault. It's because Trump himself stacked the courts for this exact purpose.

The bond is not necessarily meant to be punitive. They would have demanded immediate payment if so. The bullshit is that Trump has inflated and deflated the values of his assets for decades of fraudulent federal borrowing and tax evasion. Doing it here is ridiculous.
