Thanks for this! I DO miss the communality of SETI/Folding at Home. There was something very humane and engaging about the forums, being able to join teams, customizing the screensaver while it was computing, and so on. If they revived SETI/FAH I'd re-download it in a hot second.

Yeah, we don't need A/C; that's why the City is setting up cooling centers for the elderly/at risk. My late Mom remembered sleeping on her fire escape in the Bronx, or if it was REALLY bad most of her building would decamp to the roof.

Le sigh. Silly me for thinking that AI would help superpower projects like the now-defunct SETI at Home or Folding at Home. Instead, we get more Internet/AI of Shit/Internet/AI for its own sake where it doesn't belong. My cast iron pan does not have a MAC address.

They've already started to ruin their model by killing the IFFT integration, which included the Find My Phone applet. Unfortunately I use that app all the time so now Spamazon is getting my $7/month for it. Yes, you read that right. Already invested in the Amazon ecosystem so captive audience.

Every organization deserves criticism at some point. That said, had I been in Musk's shoes I might have paused for a beat before claiming that the Anti-Defamation League conspired to defame Xwitter and drastically reduce its stock price. 1/2

Conservatives are now saying the quiet part out loud in their fight against reproductive rights — Oregon Right to Life filed a lawsuit this week attacking birth control and instead of calling IUDs and emergency contraception birth control, they used the term “abortifacient contraceptives”:

A Saudi man has been sentenced to death for criticizing the government on two anonymous twitter/X accounts with a total of ten followers.

Gosh, NPR, I can't imagine how the Saudi authorities could have verified his identity on X.

based on the law where i live, i can be arrested for doing a poetry reading anywhere that isn’t exclusively 18+. i had to quit my job leading a local book club at a bookstore. i don’t think people realize how surreal things are becoming for trans people on the level of day-to-day life. crazy shit.

TSA Pre-Check is such a perfect metaphor for American governance: Outsource and underfund basic services to the point where they’re useless, then charge people money to get the experience people in other developed countries get for free.
