"after taking office and examining hundreds of pages of curriculum, Gore was shocked by what she found — and didn’t find. The pervasive indoctrination she had railed against simply did not exist."
I think what she's failing to understand here is that teaching kids to be "good people and good friends", as she put it, IS the commie indoctrination they hate.
That said, it might be time to just remove their kids from public schools if their parents threaten and harassing school officials.
Maybe she should have done actual research before running from office and helping rile up a base of extremist fanatics. Glad she’s trying to stop it now, but she helped make the mess in the first place.
Following the evidence and admitting you’re wrong when that’s what the evidence shows is not easy. Imagine how much better off we’d be if more elected officials followed Gore’s lead.
Props to her for admitting it. A lot of those types just keep doubling down and either refuse to look at the evidence or insist that what they were mad about is just even more secret and sneaky than they thought.
Wondering how long ago she herself was a teacher, "The former teacher and mother of four."
She should've known better to begin with, but especially if she'd been teaching school herself she damn sure should've known the smears were all bull shit.
In every instance, “liberal indoctrination” actually means “lack of conservative indoctrination,” and even some conservatives not realize that.
Same way “we not want activist judges legislating from bench” only ever meant “we want *our* activist judges legislating from bench.”
That’s crazy. It’s almost like they just spout whatever crap they hear on Newsmax and don’t have any actual facts to back up what they’re saying.
I still put the chances of her changing her ways around 0%.
I'm super grateful for people like this. I know I wouldn't agree with her on a lot politically, but she stepped up, and found out, and is speaking up. That gives me some hope.
Incredibly brave woman. It takes courage to admit you were wrong. It takes a tremendous amount of courage to publicly stand up to heavily armed Christofascists who threatened your life.
We're just as "shocked" a Granbury ISD school board member used a toxic political campaign, to win a school board seat in her deeply red Texas county, BEFORE researching the district’s curriculum. Actually we aren't shocked. This is the ground roots tactics the GOP is counting on for project 2025.
These comments full of extremely helpful takes that definitely don’t view victims of a 50 year kind concentrated disinformation campaign as completely inhuman & irredeemable. And thank god for that or else they’d be dangerously close to her functionally and unable to believe it could happen to them.
Ridiculous that it took READING THE BOOKS to realize they were fine. But… I guess it’s nice that there’s some publicity about someone who actually read them and came to this conclusion, even if it was after the damage was done.
‘Gore rushed to share the news with the hard-liners who had encouraged her to run for the seat. She expected them to be as relieved and excited as she had been. But she said they were indifferent, even dismissive, because “it didn’t fit the narrative that they were trying to push.”’
Hopefully she’s been looking into <gestures around> everything else and changing her mind about at least *some* of the rest of the Texas GOP agenda. I know this was a focused article, but I‘d be curious to know what her thoughts are these days on abortion, trans rights, “woke” etc.
So brave of this woman who sought power because she was mad that we were taking public health measures in our schools and promoting racial tolerance and was relieved that Texas Schools were doing neither of these things.
This . . . doesn't work for me. She was running a hard-right grift for years, and then suddenly discovered it was false, based on publicly available information?
Nope. Don't buy it. She's pulling some other kind of con.
Good for her. It’s hard to confront your priors and speak unwelcome truths to your in group. I do wonder why she didn’t do all this research reading school curricula before she ran for election campaigning on lies about their contents.
Every fascist movement needs the true believers, the ones who actually and deeply believe the fig leafs and moral panics because they truly care about children/etc. Then when they see behind the curtain, they are no longer controllable (disillusioned/mad). Hope there are more of her out there.
"'I feel like if I don’t speak out, then I’m complicit,' Gore said. 'I refuse to be complicit in something that’s going to hurt children.'"
huh. interesting approach for conservative politics. let's just see wh
"Gore has faced backlash and threats since speaking out..."
I AM SHOCKED, SHOCKED
