I think this Youtube channel with like six subscribers has talked more about Star Trek Prodigy in this first of her several videos than Paramount has in several years of making the show.

If we are gonna try to celebrate in July by doing a god damned warzone, they aren't allowed to spend June making it feel like we are about to have a god damned civil war.

Extremely frustrating to hear legal experts analyzing the SCOTUS ruling on immunity like just another case - it's an inherently normalizing act. People need to stop playing constitutional Calvinball and treat them like political actors.

Sure, but only NYT is vapid enough to say the key issue with Starmer is "lack of star power." The NYT editorial board writes the same way a fashion consultant in The Hunger Games talks.

Most of it's pretty weak sauce wrapped up in more aspirational language, for the sake of keeping the "centrist" / right wing of the party happy. democrats.org/where-we-sta...

Proposals include justice system, tax, environmental, and educational reforms which would be good even if not perfect.

"viewing Trump as something like a fascist leader foresaw the violence of January 6th as a live possibility, while its critics mocked the notion as mere hysteria. Whatever its shortcomings, “Trump as fascist” remains the best guide to what Trump will try to do next"

I'm sure impeachment will be an effective remedy against a President who {checks notes} is known to kill someone who identifies themselves as his political opponent. I'm sure lots of people will vote to remove him, among the surviving Senators.

I've complained for years about Congress's lack of "Red Team." There should be standing committees dedicated to figuring out the worst possible results from the Blue Team legislative committees draft texts. Do hearings about how to exploit it all ahead of time, not just years later.

"Obviously, the first amendment can not invalidate the importance of Mr. Trump's lèse-presidente statute since a mere amendment can not override the inherent authorities of the Executive. Convictions for saying He has small hands are upheld." - Roberts Court circa 2026

Mehdy from Rodent Control decided to call everybody in his rolodex from the table next to me, and shout at them over the noise of the coffee shop rather than step outside while yelling PII like customer names with rodent problems. I thought you should know cuz apparently he thinks everybody should.

The United States has always been a democracy for some and a brutal authoritarian regime for others, and the effort to expand it to democracy for all has led to a 70+ year backlash culminating in SCOTUS claiming that kings are totes cool and also judges are the ones to coronate them

There's a gag in the movie I'm working on where the time traveler who helped make the anti-zombie vaccine basically just carried around a giant genetically engineered brain from the future to conferences and put it on a podium to talk to virologists because she didn't know bio stuff herself.

Watching some of the debate. Honestly, I wish it was going better. I respect Biden and I think he's genuinely a well intended and respectable guy. But Trump's loud confident sounding talking is probably gonna make this a net win for him. Disappointing, I really hoped Trump would collapse by now.

And while that hypo feels nearly inevitable, it's not even good for computers either! If the goal is to have automated agents of workers applying to automated agents of corporations, job matching can be done with API's for ∞ly less money + power if you skip generating+parsing English text!

i've always loved the Terry Pratchett Boots Theory of socioeconomics but it's really striking now how it's slowly becoming inaccurate bc so many companies straight up do not make good products anymore. not even rich people can buy things that aren't designed to break in 3 years bc they don't exist

Founding fathers would be *super* confused by how we run things now. As-intended, citizens only had direct vote for their representative in the House. Senate was a free for all with many Senators being appointed. And the electoral college was a real thing that was allowed to pick anybody as POTUS.

Is there any particular reason the Supremes still make special drop dates for opinions, or is it just How We Have Always Done It? Seems like they could just kinda upload to the website it whenever they are done spellchecking and skip the theatrics.

Hopefully the executives that have gotten high on their own supply and think people want this find the result career-limiting. Companies keep pushing it down users throats to get engagement because they know they can't release & let people use it if they want to. Revenue expected by magic thinking.

The NYT laying off half it’s art dept as they ramp up the use of A.I. tools is 100% related to UArts closing due to a “steep drop in enrollment.” Regardless of A.I.’s actual capabilities the story being told to (and accepted by) business leaders is damaging the perceived value of the visual arts.

"Calling random phone numbers leads to useful data" is an unverified claim in the 21st century. For all the math that is done to the data, the underlying data source has become about as valuable as a seance and the whole premise hasn't been subject to rigorous scrutiny in the modern world.
