I don't know Biden's mental capacity. He's been a competent president. But it's reasonable to ask if, after that debate, he's capable of beating Trump. This effort to cast that legitimate fear as elitist, hostile to black people (!), or indifferent to the Trump threat is deeply cynical & dishonest.

Slashing methane is a major climate win from Biden’s Inflation Reduction Act. It’s $850 million (6% of EPA budget!) for “projects that help track — and stop — methane leaks tied to oil and gas production.” This would’ve a been career-defining win a decade ago. Now it’s Monday after holiday weekend.

So… yeah. There was a post-debate window for Biden to gracefully step down and back Harris instead. That window has closed. He gave it some thought, party elites voiced their concerns, he decided “nah.” I would’ve felt more comfortable if he’d made a different choice. But here we are. (1/2)

It's really hard to wrap your brain around the idea that the US Supreme Court just unilaterally amended the Constitution to immunize the first president who tried to unlawfully retain office after losing the election. That's what actually happened, not some alarmist fever dream.

A few years ago, Jon Lovett floated a theory that media treats Democrats like protagonists - to be challenged, accounted, and forced to be behave in growth-oriented ways - while the GOP are treated like antagonists - immutable, expected to disrupt, thematic obstacles. Thinking about that a lot.
