Somehow it never occurred to me that a major campaign issue for one of the national parties of the United States in 2024 would be general opposition to a triumph of modern medicine that saves something like 4 million lives worldwide every year and dramatically reduces childhood mortality.

An aunt and the cousin she was carrying died from polio the year the polio vaccine rolled out. I had mumps as a kid (pre-MMR shots), and I remember the PSAs about rubella. What really upsets me is how babies and children are starting to suffer because their parents believe lies 😡

My parents were in their 30's when the polio vaccine was made available. No hesitation. No questions. They had friends who died of polio. They queued up. Immediately. Mum explained...it was considered a duty to stop the spread of the disease. There was no hesitation.
