As it's Newshub's last week on the air, it's timely to look upstream at the Warner Discovery 'disruptor' shitting in the river of NZ's media landscape. (We have bigger problems than just one person, but seriously, fuck this guy)

Over the weekend, I found a tiny pink plastic shoe on the ground near my office. I placed it at eye level, on a wooden post, by the stairs. This morning, on that same post, was this picture.

I actually have nothing against Canada except jealousy of their healthcare. But I’m proud to have written this sketch and song. Eh.

the A/I bros dream of a "deeply personalised content" is really telling, cause it only cares about what me-as-a-customer wants they don't see art as sharing and discovering human experiences, it's all about being fed a content without leaving the comfort of your tiny self

And it's absolutely insane that this is even up for discussion because BEFORE Covid, plenty of people wore masks. Just not a large portion of the population. And no one cared. Mask bans are 100% a culture war bullshit stance, because masks work.

It’s so cool that cities are like “pweeease only turn your AC on if you’re actively dying and don’t go below 79 🥺🤘🏻💗” while the AI nobody asked for is slurping up the power grid to make 1 image of a girl with 5 tits

Every study like this comes to pretty much the same conclusion, that the best way to run a society is just to give money to the people at most risk. Nobody with any power will admit this because they NEED poverty, they believe in poverty as a social good.

I think one reason the American right is so insane is that the only actual historical conservative tradition in this country is slavery and Jim Crow, but this can't be admitted

Reminder that Aaron Swartz was facing 35 years in prison and financial devastation for trying to programmatically download and open the contents of JSTOR, which led to him taking his own life. But OpenAI is going to scrape all of academia and make billions by plagiarizing it.

Saw a Microsoft AI commercial where someone types in "Help us write a rap for our best friend's wedding speech". Imagine not caring enough to write something for your best friend. Also if someone did some Lin Manuel Miranda-ass rap at my wedding I would exile them to the battle royale island.

Top down F1 racing games were a whole genre in the late 80's and Nintendo created their own for the Famicom Disk System with Famicom Grand Prix: F1 Race.

If you want to be absurdly technical, this is the first Mario racing game!

PrEP is one of the great miracles in the history of medicine and moving it to a twice a year shot will make it so much easier for people to use it's hard to articulate just how amazing it is that we moved HIV from a guaranteed death sentence to something people no longer have to experience at all

"U.S. police departments have gotten smaller—and the violent crime rate is still plummeting. So what is going on?" What's ALWAYS gone on. Cops do not stop crime. They never have. Real "tough on crime" measures are well-funded schools, free daycare, and mental health services. Always have been.
