We’ve all watched the GOP drag rapists, criminals, florid wackos, and brain-dead white supremacists to electoral victory over and over again.
Perhaps the Democrats can summon up some of that energy to save our democracy and our lives.

Everyone watching any Bond movie: this is utterly unrealistic, no one would stand there and say exactly how they were going to do some awful thing, the Incredibles even made a joke about monologuing.
Everyone experiencing reality: Oh. Oh, I see.

Suprise: unwashed fascist ghoul Matthew Walther - who wrote a column that the New York Times just published advising Americans not to vote - did in fact vote in 2020 and 2022.
It’s time for us to stop tolerating these ratfucking liars.

just watched 74 people speaking at least a dozen different languages become american citizens in a ceremony at monticello, where the speakers were themselves children of immigrants. inspiring stuff and a vivid illustration of what reactionaries want to snuff out

Chinese-American at buffet checkout, in the space of a minute:
* Says something in Chinese to one of the staff.
* Chats briefly w/customer ahead of me, in Spanish.
* Chats briefly w/me in English.
THAT is what makes America great. Immigrants, diversity, and all-you-can-eat buffets.

How can you double down when you've gone all-in, I hear some of you asking. Your billionaire sugar daddy floats you, is how.

This feels like the term where the majority went all-in on oligarchy, and I am not sure how we can expect them not to keep doubling down.

I keep coming back to the passage of Washington's Farewell Address in which Roberts cloaked his bid for authoritarianism. Roberts took a passage warning against corruption, foreign influence, insurrection, and authoritarianism, & said, "sign me up!"

i think akhil amar reed captures something very important, which is that the roberts court rewrote article ii, which explicitly states that a president can be held criminally liable after impeachment (and which has long been understood to mean that he can be held liable after leaving office)

Conservatism (which is really just authoritarianism dressed up nice) has always demanded that they not only be told that they're right, acknowledged that only they have valuable ideas and indeed must be loved for imposing those ideas on everyone else.

Biden stays in and we deal with age stories every day until the election? bad!
Biden drops out and Harris tries to step in and run? bad!

I don't reallynwant to boost the panic levels right now, but what reason do we have to believe that this Court won't throw out valid Democratic wins (and not just Biden, but in Senate or House elections) in order to protect what they've seized?
