Classic American political dialogue is premised on the idea that we share fundamental values but disagree on how best to promote them. I haven’t believed this for a while. Other than “I prefer to be alive and not dead” and “I like pudding,” I do not share values with these people.

... That we know of, at least. And if Biden is going downhill now (and it is entirely possible for that sort of thing to start fast, like "he was just fine as of the State of the Union and then ..." fast), some Dems might be figuring current polling is meaningless if there's worse news coming.

I agree, but the latest spate of "Biden is so old you guys" stories contains anonymous anecdotes that are pretty obviously from White House staffers, which speaks to people in Biden's inner circle - the ones who are supposed to be ride or die for him - losing faith. That's not a good sign.

After the debate I figured that wait and see for a week was the prudent position re Biden. Well, it's been a week, and the public polls aren't great, and judging by how Democrats are publicly moving away from him the internals may be worse. I'm starting to think he's done.

This is true, but national polling is also kind of meaningless right now - Democrats are looking at specific crosstabs for suburban moms, Latinx occasional voters, etc. Tammy Baldwin refusing to appear with Biden in Wisconsin is probably a better indicator for what those specifics are saying.

The reality is that, so far, there's little polling evidence that Biden's lost much support since the debate. But that's not gonna permeate the bluesky ecosystem because election/polling twitter didn't migrate over here.

Ska, reggae, and dancehall all exist because Jamaica didn't enforce copyright laws until the late 80s, so calypso artists were free to do unregulated/pirate covers of American and British pop songs in their own idiom, which effectively created the aforementioned styles

it's like: there WAS an open, democratic process to pick the nominee! four years ago! and then the Democrats went with "default" this year so that's where they are

the old-timer Dems seem to be creating a framework: yes, you can call on Biden to drop out, but only - ONLY - if you say "so Kamala can take the reigns" and that's honestly the best call for a Biden-replacement scenario

One of the primary arguments against Biden dropping out is that nobody polls better than he does for the Democrats - in particular Kamala Harris, the only person who can actually realistically replace him. This is just one poll, but if Harris now polls better than Biden, that's a BIG change.

Think about how much Karen energy Marjorie Taylor Greene has, and how although you might hate her (and with good reason), how effective she has been at advancing her pet causes, politically if not legislatively (which she can't do because she's stupid)

thinking about biden’s address last night, “the supreme court has given the president absolute power, i think that’s wrong and over the next four months you’ll see me reject that power, now imagine what trump will do with it” is an implicit argument for why he must stay in the race, which is clever

I am resigning now so that the President can find someone else who can stomach this."

A difference between me and many of my friends is that most of my friends believe that manners and decorum mean that a person will not participate in fascism. Maybe it is the lesson that my bitter Jewish grandmother taught me, but I've always believed that aristocrats can push us into the ovens.

Also just tossing it out there, but SCOTUS saying "we need to do this to protect executive authority" when it's literally the executive branch arguing they shouldn't, sort of gives the lie to the idea this was about protecting constitutional departmental interests as opposed to protecting Mr Trump

I can at least understand the idea that Biden should step down and allow Harris to run in his place - there are actual rules to allow that! Scenarios involving literally anybody else are a joke, not least because that person's campaign wouldn't be able to access the $250m Biden/Harris warchest.

The current news cycle is best understood as a combination of cynical news organizations trying to collude with Democratic no-hoper centrist insiders who would never be able to win a primary campaign under normal circumstances to oust Joe Biden and, somehow, Kamala Harris as well

the best thing about #AEW is that Excalibur, on commentary for the main event of one of their premium special shows, is allowed and likely encouraged to say "hey after this you should go on Youtube and check out highlights of this wrestler from the 90s who inspired some of the current generation"
