Alito lied about the reason the flag was up because he didn’t know the couple had text messages establishing the date of when the incident took place. They were supporting the insurrection. www.nytimes.com/2024/05/28/u...
Non elected Federal Officials (US Supreme Court Justices) who behave like Kings with impunity and disregard for rules and the law is un democratic. Is it not? @chrislhayes.bsky.social
These are old ass idiots who have no idea what current technology is capable of doing. Can't be bothered to learn about it, and are somehow in charge of deciding how it all gets legislated.
"There are some differences"
Good ol' NYT passive voice. Yeah the real version had multiple pieces of collaborating evidence and Alito version didn't.... Hmmm
It was a ridiculous claim to begin with: "Our argument with the neighbors made me so mad, I hung our flag upside down."
I've heard more believable lies from 3 year olds trying to explain where the cookies went.
This is really, really, really, really, *shockingly* scandalous. It’s getting a lot of play but somehow not enough.
I mean look, we all knew what time it was with this guy. But at this point he’s inventing new ways to tell us to go fuck ourselves. It cannot stand.
it was definitely in support of the insurrection—you don't fly the upside down flag *on Inauguration Day* without it being that political message. the contemporaneous account seems to suggest their visible support for the insurrection was also part of a neighborly tit-for-tat
What I don’t get is why he couldn’t have said (since he lied anyway) that it was in response to Jan. 6, signaling that it was “America in distress” in the first place. That, albeit a poor excuse, would have seemed SOMEWHAT honorable. But he told some idiotic 5th-grader lie instead.
According to Alito, "Justices commonly interpreted discussion of 'the truth' to mean that events in one's own neighborhood were not to be reported truthfully. In doing so I followed what I understood to be standard practice."
Were VA schools in-person January 2021?
“The justice later elaborated in an interview with Fox News, saying that in January 2021 a neighbor on the block displayed a vulgar anti-Trump sign, near where children wait for the school bus.”
Man good thing the WaPo journalists at the time decided there was nothing to see there and just walked away instead of actually investigating the whole thing.
Ah yes. He's a master jurist when it comes to sussing out every possible ripple of his actions and all the unforseen circumstances surrounding what he's deliberating on.
Memories are weird. Entirely possible that's how he remembers it going down. He is as bad as everyone thinks and sucks major ass, but this is completely unremarkable.
Not to put too fine a point on it, but he lied because he is unprincipled. He thought he could get away with it because he didn’t know there were texts.
Was the founding fathers original intent that just men had the right to huck a looey at their neighbor, or were women allowed to debase themselves by expectorating in public as well?
Why do people argue about this? He's not going to recuse himself for any reason, just like Thomas, because he doesn't have to. This finger wagging shit is pathetic. He has the power because enough of us voted for George W Bush. Now we have to live with it. Wag your finger at Nader.
Alito's wife was rude to The Washington Post journalist (the boss of The Washington Post at that time was a guy who used to work for Ronald Reagan). Ms. Alito being rude to neighbors for no good reason is entirely possible.
Alito is a stone cold liar (he wears his Catholicism on his sleeve, I thought very religious people were supposed to be honest). "Alito told Ted Kennedy that Roe was ‘settled’ ahead of high court confirmation: Report" www.washingtonexaminer.com/news/1573524...
But also, if you're a Supreme Court Justice and you're trying to avoid admitting that you support the violent overthrow of the duly elected U.S. government: Why claim, instead, that your batshit wife flew an upside down flag because your neighbor called her a name? That's not a whole lot better. 😬
