The thing about publishers is they care how many books sell. And that’s not a metric that changes when a handful of people flounce on Bluesky.

I may have just sort-of described The City We Became by Jemison. But either of the two sides don’t need to be villains. Those who are more comfortable with Weird in a weird town and those who hide in a the normalcy of a Normal town? Weird v Differently Weird? Out v closeted?

I think it’s more a whole town than a single person, but the story of the people who are finding refuge as the town gets Weird and the people trying to end the process could get interesting

In light of the latest round of bullshit in the NYT or WaPo or other "papers of note," I offer you Gen. Sherman's words: "You have heretofore read public sentiment in your newspapers, that live by falsehood and excitement; and the quicker you seek for truth in other quarters, the better."

If you are mad at the NYT and don't feel like fucking with the auction today, I also invite you to just go directly to donate.romancingthevote.com which is where all of our auction payments will go, and from there directly on to voting organizations who will make sure those who WANT to vote can.

He was ordered to resign by his own leaders after having said he welcomed an investigation *and did not get that opportunity.* That is not “I have no good explanation.” Yet when all the dust settled, Dem Franklin was out and 0 accused Republicans were out or even investigated. Odd how that worked.

If you have a pill case like this & you’re having trouble opening it, put a little piece of tape across where the latch clicks in. It will still seal but be easier to open.

If you're so concerned about the stakes of this election you could just... spend the next four months writing about the stakes of this election. A constant drip of articles calling the Democratic nominee unfit is also not a great strategy for winning!

Rowling wrote a series about a bloodline-obsessed authoritarian regime that practices chattel slavery & refuses to mix with or even understand outside societies in its own nation. Tennant starred twice in a show that goes repeatedly out of its way to praise “ordinary” people as vital and important.

Americans. Hey. Your president? He has a severe stutter. Trump uses a known rhetorical style (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gish_ga...) to make it nearly impossible for a person with no impediment to respond. So no, quit playing into Trump's hands by cracking jokes about a person *WITH A DISABILITY*.

99% of the votes I have ever given are “No way that other fucker gets near the White House.” This is a far cry from “I am voting for someone I 100% support.” I will argue to my dying breath that keeping the worst out is the only realistic improvement, not holding out for a fantasy hero.

Periodic reminder: What you see on social media is an algorithm-curated echo chamber. Those who shout loudest typically get amplified the most, regardless of whether they’re right. The real work takes place offline. If you’re getting stressed out by today, take a break, focus on what you can do.
