See also "Save the Cat" and other writing manuals that people accuse of ruining writers. They're almost always analyses of what has worked in the past and good guides for writing commercially-viable stories, but not actual laws enforced by the story police.

Campbell's analysis is awesome, but at the end of the day it's a distillation of the common elements of the most successful stories humanity has told -- not an outline of absolutely every story. If you want to tell a good story, he's a useful guide for success, but not a rulebook.
