"The congestion tax is not only a burden on police officers and other essential commuters — it’s bad for public safety,” said Patrick Hendry, president of the city’s police union, in the first of the two releases. nysfocus.com/2024/06/07/h...
Ah, right. Congestion-pricing fees would cut into all that money they save parking on the sidewalks and putting little laminated cards on their dashboard.
It’s not just the commute, it’s the eventual crackdown on illegal plate covers and guy’s wives getting detailed bills when they drive outside their precincts for nookie.
Bad for public safety? Easier routes for fire trucks and ambulances with less traffic?
Less folks getting smashed by cars?
More funding for critical public transportation infrastructure?
Those are all so bad for public safety I guess.
Cops don't want to pay to drive their F-150s into Manhattan and park them on the sidewalk, but that is not a public safety problem and no one should feel sorry for them.
It's bad for public safety when a cop from Staten Island can't drive into Manhattan and park his F-150 on the sidewalk? Exactly how does gridlocking the roads and blocking the sidewalk harm public safety, again?
Serious question: NYPD and FDNY have to pay tolls to commute to work? It's not picked up by the department? Instead of killing congestion pricing, why wouldn't NYPD and FDNY be exempt for work-related entry to the zone?
Yeah it’s too much work now if you’ll excuse me I’ve got to collect 170,000 dollars in overtime for being part of operation “defend Columbia University’s janitor closet”
“local armed crime syndicate opposes barebones environmental legislation, putting lives of disabled American patriots at risk.”
someone hire me, i need a job.
As someone who loved on Long Island, I fucking HATE the weird ass relationship LI and NYC have forced each other into, it's literally making it worse for both of them all across the board
I'm shocked. Shocked.
Actually I'm shocked at myself for not putting this together before now. Fucking NYPD assholes. Why do we let them live in the burbs now anyway?
What I can’t fathom is like… issue a windshield tag for first responders? 98% of the NYPD doesn’t commute below 91st street to go to work. Absolutely no need to pause for this. This is a burden on actual essential workers, delivery drivers, far far worse and no one cared.
More cops taking mass transit into the city to go to work should increase public safety when compared to that same amount of cops sitting in traffic in their private cars as they drive into work.
A guy whose members physically abuse protesters, doesn't have a clue about public safety. Next, this idiot police union boss will tell people it's safe to sit in a car with its engine running in a closed home garage. theicct.org/new-study-qu...
A police union boss just lied to the public (dude shouldn't have a job doing anything with law enforcement). He is too dumb to know about climate change. "Traveling by public transportation is 10 times safer per mile than traveling by automobile.", www.apta.com/news-publica...
A prior NY cop union boss, Lynch, endorsed rapist convicted felon Trump, with indicted Giuiliani by his side, 4 years ago. Intelligence isn't a requisite to be a police union boss.
London, UK is very safe, London has congestion pricing for over 20 years.
Mass transit is safer than people driving cars. I wouldn't expect an imbecile NY cop union boss to know facts. Higher health care costs for everyone because of illness due to car pollution. More air pollution for the cops who work in the city. "... 10 times safer ..." www.apta.com/news-publica...
These chumps have no fucking idea what the word safety is do they? And every time a driver kills somebody they become the Tony Soprano "how could dis happen" meme
Bizarre witnessing the theoretical turn from “how could we reform/defund?” to “how many people would it take to do any 1 thing legally/politically that the police weren’t on board with? Is that even possible?”
Between judgements, settlements to victims, and the $500 million cost of wasted congestion pricing infrastructure, the NYPD is working overtime to bankrupt the city.
