A Tallahassee Police Department officer can be seen on body cam pouring out a sealed bottle of liquor and tossing it in Calvin Riley's passenger seat, before arresting him for a DUI.
@kenwhite.bsky.social Would it be feasible to pass a federal bill that prevents states or cities from using federal funding to settle lawsuits derived from incidents like this? I'd like to see pressure applied on the state level to incentivize removing qualified immunity.
Why does the article describe the one cop as "just 26" like she's a kid who just didn't know better. That's a whole grown-up woman. The only way that would have made sense would be "at just 26 she perpetrated an amateurish frame-up that was the envy of corrupt cops twice her age."
Two things would fix this immediately.
1. Any civil judgments are taken out of the department pension fund.
2. Any cop falsifying or planting evidence goes to jail for the minimum term of the alleged crime.
Done deal.
ACAB, of course, but can he get some hate on that judge? Why he doesn't dismiss the charge on his own motion and forward the cops to the US attorneys (lol like they will do anything) in fla immediately is something I hope his maker asks him on judgement day
Live in Tallahassee. Once holiday I was hanging with a friend and a cop came up and said he could smell the pot and to just hand it over... we had no pot and had not had any all night.
Maybe all cops aren’t stupid hateful racist assholes, but you pick any random three and it’s likely they all will be. And if one of them isn’t, they’ll just step aside and let the other two do their thing.
“I heard what I thought was a seal being broken,” Judge Jones said. “And one of the officers testified that she thinks that that’s what she heard as well. That’s going to be up for the jury to decide what they think.” OMFG 😱
Tallahassee is a garbage town.
This doesn't have anything to do with it's racist-ass PD because every town's pigs are racist motherfuckers. Tallahassee just sucks out loud on top of that.
Are we really surprised at this point? Cops in this country are some of the most dangerous criminals on the street because they know they can get away with anything, up to and including murder.
Can't decide if the public defender is leavng in the breaking of the seal in order to have the entire slate of charges thrown out as a frame job or something else. I note the article didn't describe actions by the PD against the trio of crooked cops.
Cop1: I stopped this dude and can give him a ticket for suspended license but how do I throw him in jail?
Cop2: Let's form a committee and devote the evening to it.
Cop3: I'm in!
New rule:
Every time a cop is caught doing this, they suffer the penalty the accused would have faced for the accused infraction, with an automatic guilty plea.
Check every police cruiser glove box.
You'll find guns. Fake guns. Real guns. Things that they can claim look like guns. Drugs. All kinds of "evidence."
ThEY do this shit ALL THE TIME!
I would like to see a standard where officer testimony without confirmation is treated as suspect, and strips said officer of qualified immunity. You wouldn’t accept an officer saying their gun wasn’t working being out in the field. Same expectation should apply to recording equipment.
Has a court ruled on whether or not a cop can plant an empty peppermint schnapps bottle in a blue domestic sedan on a Thursday between noon and 3pm? Sounds like this cop couldn’t have known he was violating the driver’s rights
