Just going to put this out there: Biden has been the most legislatively effective president since LBJ. The most pro-labor president WW2. He's done more re climate change than any POTUS. He's built an international coalition for Ukraine despite Russia-fueld GOP opposition. And yeah: he's hella old.

I do captioning for a living, & a big part of my job is cleaning up false starts & filler words. That has always been the norm at every media outlet. Print media edits Trump so carefully that you would never know what he actually sounds like. Doing this to Biden is a 180 from decades of policy.

At best it lasted from 1965-2000. Even then we had widespread gerrymandering, Senate malapportionment, unequal voting access, Jim Crow ex-felon voting bans, etc. 7 of 12 elections since 2000 have seen Republicans win one or more of the presidency, Senate, or House despite fewer votes than Democrats

What if quitting your terrible job would help the economy?
Research by economists Zhifeng Cai & @heathcote.bsky.social shows that extending unemployment insurance to workers who quit their jobs would improve economic efficiency.

Happy #JobsDay 📉📈.
Overall the labor market remains strong.
Fed rate hikes took it off boil, been cooling & now back near pre-pandemic levels. Cooling has taken the form of slower hiring & slower wage growth, not job destruction. Layoffs remain at record lows.
Here's the numbers...

I haven’t been paying as much attention as usual to inflation indicators. But we’ve been getting a string of good news. One source of inflation pessimism was the high ratio of job openings to unemployed workers. That issue has now gone away, with unemployment still very low 1/

The model to contemplate is Putin’s Russia. Trump aspires to it and SCOTUS just gave him the ok. Putin is the richest person in the world. He has oligarchs who do well as long as they stay loyal. And the nation suffers terribly. Sham elections. Detained/murdered opposition. State media.

Here’s the post in which I do a close text study of the Southern Baptist Convention’s abortion resolutions, 1971-2009. You see not only the shift in what they preach, but how they preach it—and why. Once, SBC said abortion was a “purely private matter between a woman and her doctor.” Go figure.

Absolutely! Hegemonic masculinity, a key foundation of far-right movements, is built on a belief in a rigid gendered hierarchy. GOP voters *want* to be ruled and feel it's natural. In return they get the promise that they will dominate others (men over women, straight over gay, etc).

Watching the GOP reaction to the Supreme Court's "immunity" decision has been instructive.
These folks don't "fear" Trump, as we've been told.
They want a dictator. They may personally despise him and his smell. But he's their best shot at fascism.

Absolutely. Hegemonic masculinity, with its inherent anti-woman, anti-lgbtq bias, was a foundational element (maybe *the* foundational element) of pre-war facist movements in Italy (the first, of course) and Germany, but also France and England. And more recently in Hungary, Brazil, and the US.

I feel like the part of the decision allowing the President to use the DoJ to investigate political opponents is underplayed in these hypotheticals. Trump *probably* won't order assassinations, but he will absolutely have his lackeys gin up charges against rivals.
