Unfollowing, for this. Sorry you feel stressed out by people disagreeing with you publicly but 1) this was not what was shown at the debate, and is pure media crusade. 2) honestly, i agree with "this is bad" but i don't need another prominent liberal adding to the "we're fucked" campaign.

one thing you pretty consistently see is journalists defending coverage decisions by saying "that's old news, everyone knows it, no need to report it." another is journalists defending coverage decisions by saying "everyone is talking about this, we must cover it" convenient!

I am not the first to make this point but if the whole premise is that the president is not competent, and the president outmaneuvers you....

You actually didn’t need to say it and that’s the problem. You rushed out to be the first wave your newspaper’s multi-week, unhinged campaign against a president you claim to support. And yeah, I think you deservedly lost respect and credibility for it. You should own that.

News analysis: The resilience that the NYT has built over a century in politics is colliding with a new reality, where they are not being held up as a newspaper who overcomes obstacles but are accused by their critics of putting their own ego ahead of the country.

Might as well call yourselves "The Fascist Times" at this point, that's about as seriously as anyone should take you. Hope the trading of your reputation was worth it.

"Executive Time" fell out of the coverage of Donald Trump in the most incredible way. Nobody writing about his quest to become president again ever mentions the fact that he hated the job when he had it and he couldn't and wouldn't really do it!

as a politics knower I think the democrats should simply do the thing that makes it easiest to win, but also aligns with both all my prior posts and all my most panicked recent posts. this is very simple and obvious.

That’s half the quote. Clyburn then goes on to say, “I would prefer to support her in future endeavors.” That sort of lying is why I am getting the vibe that some people are trying to will this into existence.

I think this is the fundamental asymmetry underlying every aspect of the conflict between the parties; you see it in the Senate, in gerrymandering, in the use of executive power I don't want King Biden either, but it's long past time to make the GOP afraid of the consequences of endless escalation

When Trump is rounding up people with impunity and the imprimatur of the nation’s highest court at least folks will be able to take comfort in the fact the slightly older guy is no longer president.

if President Biden declared today's Supreme Court ruling to be an assault on democracy and ordered Chief Justice John Roberts imprisoned indefinitely, would that be an "official act?"

it feels like the whiteness of big political media spaces right now is having a big effect on how people are thinking about the debate. eg I have seen relatively little discussion of trump's "black jobs" comment, which immediately exploded on black twitter

3) People are even worse at predicting what will change **other people's** opinions. Questions about this tell you basically nothing about the state of the race. A big issue here is the Third Person Effect, in which people think things that haven't changed their views will still persuade others.

honestly my read of the debate was "disappointment." But the absolute mass hysterics today about this has me more terrified than anything biden did or didn't do. And FWIW, that was the read of most people i know.

95% of the “Biden must step aside” argument rests on wishcasting a perfect storm: Biden steps down gracefully, there’s minimal fallout for Dems, Kamala steps aside, a talented young gun steps in and performs well. It’s not impossible but to act like it’s a layup is nuts.

every time you see a publication amplifying republican claims that biden is taking pre-debate drugs without mentioning that the trump administration went through enough speed to make secretariat run through 5,000 feet of solid granite, they are making a choice

Then I realized the notification didn't also pop up from my app, and when I googled the number it wasn't associated with anything. I've already forwarded this to our internal phishing team, but damn. And no, the email this sent to wasn't my actual paypal account. Nor, obviously, an email I'm tied to

Really feels like all of this should be super illegal, but it operates on small dollars that aren't enough to prosecute on (unless they drain your account, I guess) but enough to have people panic. And like. I work for PayPal! I ALMOST called the number.

I have to assume that the goal is to get someone to call that number in a panic, in case the request "went through." And then they get you from there.

Is this a new scam? Someone requesting money to an email that auto forwards to a legit email, so it looks like you've actually received a request for money? What's fucked is they used the seller's notes to make it look like that's how you contact PayPal if there's an error.

I'm pretty convinced the "Jesus fed 5000 with five fishes" story was originally about how if everyone shares there's enough for everyone but at some point the church came along and said "no no, jesus did a magic trick"

The fact that Dems, within 16 years, nominated an environmentalist and a feminist for president, who won the popular vote but lost the EC, and that the party's overwhelming response was not "We must abolish the EC" but "Heh yeah our nominees sucked lol" is such a classic case of learned helplessness
