Reading a story about the election that casually referred to "Biden's slide in the polls" and it just remains remarkable to me that narrative reporters can just drop stuff like that into copy and never think twice about whether it has any basis in fact.

Hundreds of millions of people have tried ChatGPT, but most of them haven’t been back. Every big company has done a pilot, but far fewer are in deployment. Some of this is just a matter of time. But LLMs might also be a trap: they look like products and they look magic, but they aren’t.

Is Joe Biden the opinion editor—or news editor—of the New York Times? Why does Biden have to do anything to put all the extremely newsworthy facts in this paragraph into heavy rotation at the top of the homepage? Why say "of course" Trump should drop out when you haven't written that he should?

Overall, ChatGPT was good at solving coding problems that existed on before 2021. But when it comes to problems after 2021, ChatGPT’s ability to generate functionally correct code is affected. It sometimes fails to understand the meaning of questions, even for easy problems.

If Biden said something like this it would spell the end of not only his campaign but his current tenure. It's just one of countless examples of insane gibberish from Trump that the press & Democrats are choosing to treat as an immutable part of the electoral landscape rather than a story or issue.

Trump said “I know nothing about Project 2025. I have no idea who is behind it.”
But Project 2025 is run by Trump's closest aides, raising concerns about cognitive fitness for a candidate who seems unable to recall those around him.

Biden didn’t get up and perform athletic feats but it seems like a pretty normal interview from an old guy? This is the single greatest moment of political derangement I have ever witnessed in this country. The president gives a normal interview and everyone says… he must join Nixon and resign?

Americans love a candidate who promises something new. One candidate promises to become a dictator, establish concentration camps, and mass deportations. The other promises improve infrastructure, reduce healthcare costs, support reproductive rights. Can either claim the mantle of change?

The biggest issue with Biden coverage is that he’s now The Story, which means that most of the press is focused on The Story and not any of the context or consequences. If we were having a serious discussion about qualifications for presidency, age, and the two main candidates, I’d be fine with it.

Especially given that Biden was an erratic speaker in his prime—the question is how far off his cognitive baseline Biden is now, and if you're gonna push out a news alert every time he misspeaks and immediately corrects himself, you're just making it harder for the public to figure it out!

If Trump were to personally shoot someone on Fifth Avenue: Not immune. (Probably. Maybe.) If he were to order the army to massacre thousands on Fifth Avenue: Immune. (Very clearly, under the decision.) But from a constitutional perspective, the latter is the grave danger to guard against.

I keep coming back to "all this for literally Donald Trump," but it fits. There's not some more competent aspiring autocrat who'd somehow "earn" or "win" this. This is how it has always gone: feckless/evil elites attaching themselves to the sociopath they believe will get them where they want to go.

Correct. A prudent, law-abiding President who appoints qualified agency personnel to enact thoughtful regulations is going to see their agenda inevitably fail. A malicious, arbitrary President who runs around barking illegal commands at people will be rewarded.
