Lawyer, writer, all-around-great person

I mostly post about technology, law, and civil liberties (especially free speech), and how they intersect. And mostly at Techdirt: www.techdirt.com/user/cathy/

I also post silly things too.

Breaking News: The reformist Masoud Pezeshkian won Iran’s presidential runoff election, reflecting discontent with hard-line policies. The special election was held after former President Ebrahim Raisi was killed in a helicopter crash in May.

Just like none of the bold investigators backfilling Joe Biden's feeble debate performance with punchy anonymous quotes have ever figured out why Trump was rushed to Walter Reed, claimed he wanted a spur-of-the-moment weekend checkup, and a year later declared that he had NOT had a series of strokes

I spoke to a friend I knew in high school who told me he "doesn't follow politics." I asked him what he thought about the election. He said, "I hear Biden's a senile wreck." He also said he hadn't heard of SCOTUS granting Trump immunity and has never heard of Project 2025. Media's doing a great job.

There are many things that infuriate me about the pundit class right now, but probably one of the top on my list: Project 2025 has posted their plans for every single federal department on their website. They have a training academy for prospective appointees. Where are the hard hitting op-eds?

I'd resent what they're doing to Biden if they were doing it to the other guy too. If these issues are so important, shouldn't we know how they affect BOTH choices? (Biden at the debate even reminded that Trump is only 3 years younger than him. Instead of dunking on Biden, maybe listen to him?)

To be clear, this bill is nonsense, and he is straight-up calling for the murder of every Democrat in Congress. It is already illegal, as a matter of federal law, for non-citizens to vote in federal elections. This doesn't change that. What it does is a national ID mandate for voter registration.

Like, look. I also was extremely worried that Biden was incapable after the debate, which I watched in entirety, twice. I have since watched or listened to ~everything he’s done since that I can find. I don’t think he’s senile.

Voters just blame whoever is President for whatever happens during their Presidency, which is a major reason why allowing the situation where the Supreme Court absurdly gets to make policy across whatever issue they want to persist is so deadly to Democrats

Not surprised that they would do this but it's the dumbest legal argument yet, since it is all related to acts after leaving office. But Cannon is dumb enough to buy it. (Although if she does, then the 11th comes back into play.)

This is particularly important to understand because Trumpist authoritarianism is the descendent of Jim Crow far more than say Hitler or Pinochet or Orban, and it's going to look a lot more like 1930s Mississippi than 1930s Berlin.

Last I checked Powecoms are still one of the most highly rated KN95s & this is the best place to get them. They sell some colors individually wrapped if you prefer that. Good for handing out to people. (N95s protect better than KN95s but people are more likely to actually wear earloop masks.)

Morning Joe has, all in all, been a lone voice of sanity in the media mob's rush to ride Biden out of town. Mika has been wonderful: a voice of calm and perspective and I suspect she had some words for Joe, who metered his tone from last week and urged taking time before rushing to judgment.

This fact has been way too easily ignored. In fact, Biden is going to end up nominated BEFORE the convention because Ohio wouldn't let the Democratic nominee on the ballot otherwise (claiming it would be "too late" for their arbitrarily early deadline).
