This strategy is exactly what my partner's pain specialist had recommend and is why they were able to stay off opioids post-surgery. It's powerful!

What this article leaves out is that if you hand your unlocked phone to a police officer, they can legally search it. Unless companies develop a method that allows you to show officers insurance cards and driver license without unlocking the rest of your phone, don't.

It’s amazing the extent to which our billionaire tech bro overlords are just telling us out loud that they are rooting for fascism. Makes me slightly nostalgic for the days when American plutocrats plotted against democracy in secret.

I will bang this drum forever: in THEY THOUGHT THEY WERE FREE: THE GERMANS, 1933-45 Milton Mayer interviewed 10 ordinary Germans after WW2 to learn how fascism took hold. There was never a moment when everyone woke up:

Please excuse a non-nature post. This is happening now to bring awareness to Long Covid. I've been watching for half an hour and already learned a lot. Dianna Cowern is an incredible science Youtuber who's been in bed with Long Covid for almost two years. Hosted by Simone Giertz & others. 🧪

Personally, I’d much rather pick the slightly addled friendly old man over the actively deranged addled old man who talks all the time about ushering in a bloody authoritarian reign of global terror. It makes me feel insane that this does not seem to be obvious to a lot of other people.

Makes sense. They're one of the orgs that certifies the machines that are allowed to destroy classified documents, I'm guessing a lot of people just hand things over to the NSA for destruction.

I don't think everyone is "suddenly" having adhd and autism. I think millennials were raised by parents who were ashamed of having children that weren't "normal" so we were forced to mask so hard that we "seemed" normal but were "just a little strange" and now we're all learning to unmask.

🧵 As a former librarian, I'll add: Rich (& middle class) ppl also close libraries bc they can't conceive of the need, aka a failure of empathy. I was *constantly* asked: 1) People still go to libraries? (yes) 2) Isn't everything digitized now? (wow, no, let's examine just how how wrong that is)

If I recall, there's a few recruiting firms you can filter on and eliminate the bulk of them. But yeah, it's something else. And it really makes me wonder how much it works as a strategy, because it seems like it shouldn't.

The number of adults I sell on the public library, who had *no idea* of all the things they can get there! "But I don't have time to take the kids..." It's ok, they can check out ebooks & you don't even have to make time to return them! "Audiobooks are so expensive..." They loan those too!

All computer code is written for people. The machine understands bytes, people don't. The whole system of languages, documentation, calls and responses, it's so people know what's going on. Often the person you're writing for is your own future self.

Margaret Hamilton was the director of the software engineering division for the Apollo spacecraft. If that's not amazing enough, she anticipated the issue that almost caused the Apollo 11 landing to be scrubbed and had the computer prepared to handle the issue.
