Look at how The Times is positioning this. As they call for Biden's head but even before she might ascend to the candidacy, it's tearing down Harris. Doing her job is "trying to quiet her doubters." They write about the odds of success not the stakes of failure: fascism.

Realistically, 1 or 3a are the only viable options. 2 is very risky & may face legal issues with ballot access. 3 is going to limit Harris' availability to campaign given her new day job & also removes the tie-breaking vote in the Senate which I assume Manchin & Sinema will happily exploit.

3. and 3a. are what the press & the donors are gunning for. Make the convention a total clusterfuck and run Dems in Disarray stories. Unless the party quickly figures out that Harris is the only realistic option _before_ the convention, any candidate will be doomed.

If it's 1., then we muddle through with the constant attacks from the right and the NYT, WaPo, etc. questioning his fitness.
2. puts extreme pressure on the party apparatus to get Harris out on the trail, in front of the cameras, etc. with very little runway.

Possible scenarios:
1. Status quo & it's Biden vs. Trump.
2. Biden resigns after the convention, Harris by default is the nominee.
3. Biden resigns before the convention, Harris is the presumptive frontrunner for the nomination.
3a. Biden announces that he won't accept the nomination.

We’ve all watched the GOP drag rapists, criminals, florid wackos, and brain-dead white supremacists to electoral victory over and over again.
Perhaps the Democrats can summon up some of that energy to save our democracy and our lives.

I do know that if there's any ambiguity at all from a legal standpoint it'll end up in front of SCOTUS. Which, you know. Ask Al Gore how that goes.

Just going to put this out there:
Biden has been the most legislatively effective president since LBJ. The most pro-labor president WW2. He's done more re climate change than any POTUS. He's built an international coalition for Ukraine despite Russia-fueld GOP opposition.
And yeah: he's hella old.

There is an idea called "Murc's Law" after the blog commenter who coined it: "only Democrats have agency". No-one asks Trump to be diligent, or honest, or informed, or follow the law. No mainstream outlet ever made it a national crisis for a week that he manifestly never has been any of those.

The thing I keep coming back to on this post is “bloodless if the left allows it to be.”
He’s not saying “bloodless if the left doesn’t fire the first shot.”
He’s saying “bloodless unless the left wins.”
He’s advocating for violence if he doesn’t like the outcome of the election.

This has gotten them steady numbers in elections which makes qualifying for the ballot easier the next time. From there, they've expanded to a consistent regional presence in the Northeast. Not sure this will ever scale nationally, but perhaps an alliance between regional parties would work 3/end

From Wikipedia, "WFP benefits from New York's electoral fusion laws that allow the party to support another party's candidate when they feel it aligns with their platform. This allows sympathetic voters to support a minor party without feeling like they are "wasting" their vote. " 2/

Another piece, related to this, is how ballot access is determined in each state. The Working Families Party (WFP) has been able to leverage NY laws to have a full slate on the ballot without having to stand up candidates for every office. 1/
