Vote for what you want. Lots of advantages to shifting to renewables, including lower operating costs, climate, environmental and health benefits. 🧪🔌💡

This is particularly important to understand because Trumpist authoritarianism is the descendent of Jim Crow far more than say Hitler or Pinochet or Orban, and it's going to look a lot more like 1930s Mississippi than 1930s Berlin.

When you realize we can measure the biomass of the entire planet and observe changes over time it makes you wonder why we don’t somehow peg the value of our economies to the natural support systems that sustain our lives instead of to the amount of stuff we make to pollute and destroy those systems.

This is, and these guys are, utter bullshit. One white guy doesn’t get hired, another 10,000 white guys do get hired, and that’s “anti-white.” Uh huh…

This is Stephen Miller's law firm. They're also currently repping a TV reporter suing CBS-LA for being anti-white, which as a former CBS-LA reporter I think is absolutely laughable. But they're trying to create still more legal precedent for a racist takeover, it's clear

Here's the difference between Trump and Biden: even though some Democrats and pundits have openly called for Biden to drop out, Biden won't sic an angry, violent mob on them or pledge unhinged retribution to make them live in fear.

It's important to note that this single-post analysis above is entirely consistent with a much more comprehensive analysis by @ketanjoshi.co showing that changes in the X algorithm and moderation policies that began in Oct 2022 have massively favoured trolls and penalized climate scientists.

I think part of our work as horror writers in 2024 is to help people unlock the parts of themselves that can face terror and adversity without losing their humanity & goodness. We are entering an era of fear and horror like our species has never faced. We need heart.

I love this and I feel this really hard as a writer of, specifically, cosmic horror. What do you DO when you're faced with a foe you can't defeat or understand? You still have choices left in your humanity -- not many, but a few -- and the horror is about exploring what those choices are.

Don't leave environmental collapse out of your analysis of democracy collapse. Some questions: - to what degree has premonitions of ecological collapse led to these power grabs? - to what degree will these power grabs accelerate ecological collapse?

This is the exact same area that was devastated by two wildfires less than two weeks ago. Wildfire makes areas more vulnerable to landslides, and these types of compound whiplash events are becoming more common thanks to, you guessed it, climate change.

Heatwaves can drive electricity demand for air conditioning past the safe limits of wires and transformers, causing blackouts when people need power the most. Deadly blackouts during heatwaves are happening more often as humans heat the planet by burning fossil fuels. And it's killing people.

I am not safe. I do not aspire to be safe. I do not believe authenticity can fully inhabit the same space as safety; at some point trade-offs occur. As an educator and worker, I spent decades making myself small and safe. The first thing I retired was my obligation to pick safety over authenticity.

Aligned. And authenticity creates a new, albeit different, “sense” of safety because when we are authentic there is less to defend and little for anyone to attack. Our authenticity turns what was previously vulnerable into the invulnerable.

We didn’t get the kind of dystopia. we expected. No treanchcoated heroes; just a slow trickle of indignities that overwhelm. Sometimes I wonder if that’s why we’re not in the streets en masse, in smoky basements planning takeovers, or skulking through alleys in high collars with big plans.
