Not to be corny but I do think the ongoing aspiration to make America a pluralist democracy of equals is righteous, beautiful, and worth honoring, even if it has more often been the struggle of minorities & dissenters than the policy of the government. 🇺🇸

Now this is one rule I would love to see people think about for the US. While partisan gerrymandering is a serious problem, another big problem is that with arbitrary, frequently redrawn districts people simply don't know what district they are in, or who their representatives are.

This is extremely interesting. A nice reminder of how little, like probably most Americans, I know about other countries' electoral systems.

(1/?) “It would be naïve to depend on the Supreme Court to defend the rights of poor people, women, people of color, dissenters of all kinds. Those rights only come alive when citizens organize, protest, demonstrate, strike, boycott, rebel, and violate the law in order to uphold justice.”

I think it is wise and productive for people to take seriously the idea we are in a constitutional crisis in America. I don’t think it is wise or productive to assume what happens next is like what happens in semi consolidated or consolidated authoritarian systems.

And this is the biggest problem for the upcoming election IMO. Biden and the Democrats aren't proposing ANYTHING that won't bring us right back here in 2028 even if they do sweep the board. Not a damn thing.

Absolutely. And the problem is he's afraid to say that because he thinks it will turn establishment R's off from voting for him. His strategy is all wrong for the nature of the challenge.

6. De-fund the courts. No clerks/staff, electricity, supplies.

7. Reinstitute circuit riding since SCOTUS so out of touch.

Of these, #2 requires a constitutional amendment. #s 1, 6, 7 can be done without amendment but would require Dem majority in Senate + House. # 3, 4 requires Dem Prez as well.

If he gets two Dem houses of Congress, there are a number of legislative possibilities. But he could *propose* them now and say vote for me and other Dems to get it done!

The last time people went to go protest a Supreme Court decision there was an immediate, bipartsan effort to use tax player dollars to put snipers on Samuel Alito's roof while our favorite pundits went "Brett Kavanaugh has a family :( :(. His daughter must be so scared :( :("

The counterfactual this implies is that a robust debate performance might have helped him. I don’t think he’s going to step down. I think the only scenario for doing so that doesn’t make things worse is resigning for Harris (but keep in mind that makes Johnson next in line).

There are two elements to the immunity decision that are particularly extreme in a way that many will miss: (1) motive is irrelevant and (2) immune acts are not just excluded from prosecution, they’re excluded from evidence. /1

I say this to my history students every semester. Lawyers do not have a monopoly on law, courts, & especially the Constitution--despite how often they are told otherwise. It may be in the best interest of lawyers to claim that unique authority; it's in everyone else's best interest not to let them.

No matter what, the Biden campaign has every reason to get Kamala Harris out there and showcase her in the best possible light. For Biden to stay in an win they need Americans to be comfortable with her taking over should he not survive his full term. This is a crucial task post-debate.
