Everyone knows there’s a million weird things like this in the Bible that every Christian just ignores but they’ll parade these quotes around as if they mean something. Oh, people 3000 years ago wouldn’t like what I’m wearing? Let me base my whole personality around that then.
They'll go on and on about how boys can't wear a cute skirt and dresses in public but never ever touch on the way Ezekiel 23:20 describes men with dicks like donkeys and cum like horses alongside the CLEAR horny posting by the scribes under the veil of biblical story telling!
Shameful SMH
I wonder when they’ll listen to the parts that tell them to shut up and pray quietly and to not judge others and let god do it or the ones where Jesus died for all past and future sin and thus none of it actually matters just don’t be a dick.
Under the finger: "Thou shalt not see thy brother's ass or his ox fall down by the way, and hide thyself from them: thou shalt surely help him to lift them up again."
It's more or less saying you have to help somebody if their transportation breaks down. Curious why they covered it.
There’s just no reason to treat these verses as integral to the faith. All such lines in the Bible are basically non sequiturs. Asserting otherwise is a choice. The same people will do linguistic contortionism wriggling out of “turn the other cheek” or “it’s easier for a camel…”
The King James passage under the fingers, Deuteronomy 22:4, is "Thou shalt not see thy brother's ass or his ox fall down by the way, and hide thyself from them: thou shalt surely help him to lift them up again," so....
That same verse would’ve been used 50 years ago to tell women not to wear pants and suits and go to work. They start with their authoritarian beliefs and work backward to scripture. They don’t actually believe in God.
Aren't clothes made of mixed fibers equally abominable to God based on the language in that part of the Bible? Do these people repent after wearing a sweater?
It's probably helpful to know that Deuteronomy as a text emerges in political circumstance itself; Israel was under foreign occupation and a lot in the text reads as a manifesto to command consolidated, uniform religious authority in Jerusalem vs. different practices in rural shrines
This reminds me of all those assholes who quoted Leviticus at me when I got a tattoo. Bitch please, I’m a recovering Christian and the ex-wife of a pastor and I’ve actually read the entire bible so COME AT ME 😆
Yup. Cherry pick to justify hate and judging others.
Especially weird considering they worship someone who said the 10 commandments and laws were too much so go with one rule...
this isn't even *strictly* about gender (at least from a Jewish perspective). most of the commentaries I'm familiar with (Rashi, ibn Ezra) interpret this as specifically being about crossdressing for dishonest or immoral purpose.
Exactly. Just before this verse Christians are instructed not to mix seeds in the field, not to plow with an ox and donkey at the same time, not to wear wool and linen together, and to make sure their cloaks has tassels. Just goes to show how little some people read or care.
If one must consider it, that whole document can be treated as a Rorschach Test. What people choose to highlight says something about their moral character, but the text itself should not be treated as an authority on anything
Nothing worse than religious zealots who cherry pick verses to suit their arguments and SWEAR they are verbatim "word of God" but who refuse to acknowledge that 2000 years worth of inaccurate/subjective translations and misinterpretations could POSSIBLY come into play. Or that it might be fiction?
Fun fact: this is the same chapter that says being stoned to death is the punishment for a bride whose family can't prove she was a virgin with bloody sheets.
Can see why they covered up the previous verse lol
"Thou shalt not see thy brother's ass or his ox fall down by the way, and hide thyself from them: thou shalt surely help him to lift them up again"
Yeah there's also this verse where they say shrimps are evil and I've never seen westboro baptist style christians parading in front of a Lobster House Joe's.
It's not even Christian anyway! Jesus fucking said so! American Christians know nothing of their religion, though, so it's a surprise. Their religion is bigotry and white supremacy wrapped in the cloth of a radical Rabbi that got coopted by a Charlatan and a Zoroastrian
*coughs*
There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.
Proverbs 18:22
This guy clearly doesn't believe in Jesus. J-Town showed up and got humanity out of the old deal. Eat your shellfish, wear your skirts, the original deal is canceled!
There's also a passage forbidding the mixing/blending of fabrics, seeds/plants, animals (people), so I guess the entirety of society has to go. Lol. Backward bullshit full of mistranslations and interpretations.
I wonder what people think they're achieving by pointing out that "there's this rule that's printed in this book". No one cares and no one should care.
been said before but it’s funny to me like “LORD thy GOD”
Uh, no, he’s not my god?
he’s yours?
These are rules YOU are supposed to follow, not me
This ain’t my religion pal, it’s yours
I’m not bound by it
but a conservative cultist is never satisfied without forcing their control onto others
Case in point, the part covered up with the fingers is about what to do if you find your neighbor's escaped donkey (take care of it until they can come get it), and the verses immediately following are about what to do if you find a bird's nest (you can take the eggs/chicks, but not the mother).
I see people already doing gymnastics in the comments but you really don't have to do gymnastics here. If a person is going to cite this law, then they had to adhere to all the law. I mean all 613 laws.
That's like the whole point of Christ fulfilling the law.
Nothing in the Bible is “cut and dry” it’s thousands of years old, written for an ancient people, in a language and style that is not simple to translate.
Thank Christ God is dead or else they'd be so mad right now 🤣
That said I bet five wet euros that the fourth musketeer in question is the kind of believer the thinks that "love thy neighbour" refers to your literal neighbour and no-one else (and even then... )
If your children misbehave and drink instead of being obedient and working you must tell the elders and then the people in the town must stone them to death. It's in the bible too.
2000 years ago pants/trousers were not even invented. Therefore wearing pants puts everyone on a neutral ground, right? But everyone wore robes, which looked perilously close to dresses.... I guess we're screwed either way. Remember, he died for our sins. Don't dismiss his sacrifice . Sin.
Fully agree with you but why bring in posts from the disease that is twitter? I desperately try to stay off that site because only idiots seem to be on there.
Also, does this mean trans women are ok to wear trousers, in these weirdos book?
Cuz I'm pretty sure plenty of trans women ALSO appreciate the additional cold protection of an enclosed outfit.
Also in Chapter 22:
- All roofs should have parapets.
- Don't wear blended fabrics.
- Make sure you have proof of your daughter's virginity before her wedding night in case her husband questions it after.
Feels like a good skirt day for me.
...is what I would say if the forecast did not tell me that it wouldn't get over 50 Fahrenheit today. owo; But the intention is there!
It's also been translated multiple times and edited/revised each time, in addition to being edited just because they felt like it. It may as well be a giant game of telephone at this point with the sole purpose being to justify whatever the current angry person at the pulpit is demanding.
You have to wonder if that even meant "clothes that look like something a man might wear" vs "clothes that were actually previously worn by a man". Overall, those superstitions are weird enough that it could easily be the latter.
But also, because trans women are women and trans men are men, what the fuck does this passage have to do with the price of (non shell) fish?
Also, they'll need to define women's and men's clothes. No pants? No flat shoes?
It's a good thing that no business ever opens on a Sunday. Imagine if the workers had to be put to death for working on the Sabbath, as per Exodus 31:15 🙃
Years ago the then Bishop of Edinburgh pointed this out on radio4 comedy show. He wasn't anti-LGBTQ+ and got letters from highlighting bible passages. He pointed out the (ignored) ban on seafood at which point Gay Irish TV presenter Graham Norton said "in funny twist of fate, I don't eat seafood" 😂
Also, context is everything. I don’t know the full passage, but isolated we have no idea whether this rule applies 24/7 or just during certain religious rituals, for example.
Also, it’s the rules of a society 3000 years ago.
Trans women are women so wearing women clothes is just fine according to Deuteronomy. Also, fuck that guy, anyone who makes more than 3-5 rules about life is a weirdo. He has a full book about how to live your life, Jordan Peterson ass desert incel
that passage explains why people shouldn't be forced to wear the clothing of a gender they were misassigned at birth. trans men are men. trans women are women.
