There’s just no reason to treat these verses as integral to the faith. All such lines in the Bible are basically non sequiturs. Asserting otherwise is a choice. The same people will do linguistic contortionism wriggling out of “turn the other cheek” or “it’s easier for a camel…”

this isn't even *strictly* about gender (at least from a Jewish perspective). most of the commentaries I'm familiar with (Rashi, ibn Ezra) interpret this as specifically being about crossdressing for dishonest or immoral purpose.

You have to wonder if that even meant "clothes that look like something a man might wear" vs "clothes that were actually previously worn by a man". Overall, those superstitions are weird enough that it could easily be the latter.

But also, because trans women are women and trans men are men, what the fuck does this passage have to do with the price of (non shell) fish? Also, they'll need to define women's and men's clothes. No pants? No flat shoes?

Years ago the then Bishop of Edinburgh pointed this out on radio4 comedy show. He wasn't anti-LGBTQ+ and got letters from highlighting bible passages. He pointed out the (ignored) ban on seafood at which point Gay Irish TV presenter Graham Norton said "in funny twist of fate, I don't eat seafood" 😂
