Thanks for Reggie Jackson for saying this, and contempt and defiance, in advance, to the worthless shitbirds who will say he shouldn’t have and that he oughta leave if he doesn’t like it.

Regrettably those worthless shitbirds are now fairly mainstream.

And a simple law could fix it: “In 2 years, a utility delivering a call from a fake number will result in a fine of $10 for each offense.” Done. AT&T and Verizon world solve the problem right quick.

People wonder why AI search engines provide so many wrong answers. Occam’s razor suggests it’s because (especially recently) Search Engines all provide wrong answers, the difference being that non-AI ones provide the source of the misinformation for the user to judge.

I've never been persuaded that a deeply held belief was wrong, but in trying to put together unassailable arguments, I have discovered that I hadn't thought positions through as well as I believed I had. I agree there are very few persuadable people on social media, but self introspection is good.

Anyone who thinks the US has, overall, a high population density, hasn't spent much time driving through the middle of it. Not to mention the "shouldn't be States at all by population or economy" section of the country including Wyoming, Montana, Idaho, and the Dakotas.

Big numbers start getting hard to really properly visualise, but for reference, the numbers here correspond to deporting about 5% of all people in the United States. 1 in 20 people. It's numbers just slightly shy of the population of Florida, or a bit bigger than the population of the Portugal

I think people misunderstand the coverup vs crime comparison — it’s that politicians are more likely to get _caught _ executing the coverup, not that the coverup was actually worse.

On @msnbc.bsky.social this morning, an expert explained that Dems could support Mike Johnson because after the foreign aid being voted on now, "...there's no legislation of substance expected for the rest of the year."

How expectations get to where 4 months into the year, Congress is just... done?

I didn't think you had her in mind at all, & I do the same thing, establishing the foundation of a devastating argument, by which time others have zoned out. I'm a happy follower of yours & a loyal watcher of Maddow, but my wife & I will still yell "Get to the POINT!" at her every couple of weeks.

The description of the assault on free speech starts in the 16th paragraph, if you are clicking to find the actual story. The article describes a serious problem, but there’s a real “Rachel Maddow not getting to her point until 12 minutes into the broadcast” vibe.

The Wyoming Rule is one proposal for what Kurt is suggesting. It says that the number of Congressmen should be increased, using the population of the least populous state as the unit for calculating the number of Congressmen.

I think Google can own some of the blame in this philosophy by keeping Gmail in “Beta” for 5 years. They baked in the concept that if it was free, expectations should be low. But they did build an email experience that is, IMO, better than anything else, & eventually treated it like a real product

I think you can argue that Facebook should have outgrown this as it became a major way that people communicate. I worked at a lot of different Silicon Valley companies over the last few decades, and they would all be appalled by someone advocating to “move fast and break things”.

For what it’s worth, “move fast and break things“ was a Facebook thing. The idea was that if people couldn’t post pictures of their dogs for an hour or two, that was a tradeoff they were willing to make for c faster feature development. Many, if not most, Tech companies don’t subscribe to it.

Funny how Republicans want government run like a business, but in business, the first guy you get rid of is the one who complains constantly while never doing any work. Apparently that is the ideal elected official for them now.

This is the best argument for getting rid of the filibuster. For decades, Republicans run on stuff that would be disastrous if passed, but can say they are fighting for it because almost nothing can get through the Senate.

Also, they never do try to run government like a business. If they did, they'd shut down many red states for being an unprofitable drain on resources, sell California to Japan for a short-term profit bump, and merge the Dakotas, Montana, Wyoming and Idaho into one state to streamline management.

When you read that Biden is polling at 38% approval, note that since 1989 every POTUS has had a lower approval rating than the one before. Do you believe that every POTUS is actually progressively less approved of than the one prior? Because I wonder what they are actually measuring.

I have two banks I work with, and both are _explicit_ that they will never call me, except for marketing. I’d reconsider doing business with a bank that exposed me to this kind of scam. When I’ve had credit card fraud, they’ve texted me to call their fraud number, which is on their website.
