Not the hero of the story, not a main character, just that guy in a Roland Emmerich film who looks up.

They HATE that the thing that's produced our persistently booming economy is a tight labor market. They would rather have lower growth if it meant crushing workers because what they care about isn't money (especially if someone else is getting it) but power. Trump's Project 2025 confirms that

Had all the Replace Biden folks started off “with Harris” instead of West Wing fantasies, they might have had a chance, but no that they figured it out, that moment has (probably) passed.

Maybe I’m just being contrarian or whistling past the graveyard, but my issue with the “replace Biden” crowd (mainly NYT) is how they presented it. If they said Biden should step down and Harris run, I could accept it. But they want chaos and drama.

It’s not even bothsiding the issue. Something closer to bothsiding would be pointing out Trump’s increasing lack of coherency, and even then Biden looks better. I would even say that’s a legitimate concern, having two old men to pick from. But it’s not the story the Times cares about.

The fact that I know more about Joe Biden’s one bad debate night than I do about Donald Trump’s years of raping and sexually assaulting girls within Jeffrey Epstein’s child sex trafficking ring shows exactly what is terribly wrong with today’s political mainstream media.

The NYT is not going to be nice just because AG Sulzberger’s ego was fed. We will have 1,001 stories between now and Election Day about how weak democrats are for running a candidate who didn’t win a Democratic primary, framed by “Trump is so powerful he caused a sitting D President to resign.”

There an actual path for third party power in the US. But it’s insanely boring and procedural. 10, closer to 20 years it get instant runoff voting or ranked choice nationally established. Another 10-20 of establishing local power bases, state houses, governorships, etc.

You can have government that does stuff like the below for years, or you can have government that tries to deport every illegal immigrant (and some legal ones too), hits you with a 10% tax on imports. That's the best-case scenario.

100% Just a simple analogy: if you show up to the ER with a heart attack, a broken arm, & some burns on your feet. The ER doctor would treat the heart attack first and foremost. Why? Because the heart attack is the deadly threat.

Thru what has snowballed into one of the ugliest Dem freakouts and news media feeding frenzies I think I’ve seen, Trumps position in polling has barely budged, sometimes not really moving at all. He has a high floor and a low ceiling. The country is not clamoring for this man to come back to power.

Harris is on the ballot!!!!! That’s what drives me insane. The major thing that people talk about in VP is if they can take over. Harris can. The Biden “too old” comments ignore this. She likely will take over if he wins. Voting for Biden is likely the best shot at a female president.

community action groups

This is my voting policy. Biden's done very well with most of his picks (fucking Garland is a big fucking exception), and while I'm in no hurry for Biden to shuffle off I'm also not worried about what would happen. Harris would govern as well as Biden or better.

Hypothesis: elites driving convo know, but won’t say, that vote for Biden is a vote for his cabinet & staff—his aging issues only make that, say, 25% more true than for anyone else. So wager is rooted in idea that voters won’t, & *can’t*, grok how US governance works. See @gregsargent.bsky.social

One nice bit in the New Batman Animated Series (Nightwing and Tim Drake Robin) is that Joker DIDN'T have that stuff. It was mostly Joker and Harley. "Joker's Millions" had him run out of bullets at the beginning (also, only one ejector seat, sorry Harle).

I don't know, the worst Joker stories take this and dial it straight into Jokergod territory. I prefer Joker as homicidal narcissist showman. He's the star of the show, and he'll do whatever it takes to make sure you get it. My favorite BTAS stories had pretty grounded plots for Joker.

But if Biden says okay and steps down, the Times is suddenly going to be very concerned about Kamala the Cop. And the owner already admitted he was pissy about Biden not sitting down for an interview with them; I don’t think he’d declare victory and start calling for Trump to step down.
