Hey, it's my youngest's bday too! No real luck with the lights here for me in Cincinnati. Long exposure picks up a hint of pink/purple, but nothing with the naked eye; too cloudy, too hazy. I did see them once in NE Ohio, circa 2000!

The northern lights were probably the best thing about North Dakota winters. Absolutely no light pollution and they were relatively frequent when I was growing up. Eerie yet fascinating. And every so often on a very still night out in the country you could even hear them.
