To clarify this for the Americans:
Rishi is a posho fuckrat, wealth beyond wealth, he probably eats quail stuffed with caviar with a side of lobster foie gras every day for lunch.
He said 'sandwiches' because he thinks it's what the povvos eat all the time
Somehow reminds me of when our chancellor said on camera that there is no child poverty in Austria. Because as long as every parent can afford a hamburger for each of their kids every day, none of the kids will starve.
Americans had a moment like this! Mitt Romney made his ($250 million) fortune on running a consulting firm that told companies to cut jobs and he once said his favorite meat is "hot dog" in an attempt to look like an everyman www.thecut.com/2018/05/mitt...
I have been informed I went too british lol
Translation:
Rishi is very, very upper class - richer than the royal family. He probably eats [ ludicrously fancy meats and seafood ] every day.
He said 'sandwiches' because he thinks it's what 'the everyday man'/poor person eat every day.
"Ooh, and also - my favorite job is chimneysweep. I am so very fond indeed of the singing and dancing. Favorite currency denomination? The humble tuppence, surely."
No mention of what kind of sandwich.
Ham & cheese? Chicken & bacon?
White, brown, wholemeal, sourdough?
Nope just generic sandwich, that's what the proles eat, right?
But remember, the Queen used to have picnics with food in Tupperware. Wealthy Brits love to cosplay being normal.
I don't suppose he eats particularly rich food, he's known for not enjoying food, fasts on Mondays. That kind of thing is more posh . He *could* eat anything, but doesn't
*Squirrels away the phrases “posho fuckrat” and “quail-stuffed caviar with a side of lobster foie gras” for later use.*
Regarding the latter: I once spent three months across the pond but never realized you all had such exquisite cuisine. 😉
No, no... He eats sandwiches, there just made of organic bread created with ancient grains stolen from the burial ground of colonized ppl filled with quail & lobster foie gras, & a caviar spread..
I have a long-standing hot take that sandwiches* are actually a terrible way to put food together and their ubiquity in American cuisine is a symptom of countrywide mass delusion. So Rishi’s statement was very confusing to me on multiple levels
*Grilled cheeses and other melts are acceptable
