Things are pretty fucked up and the future is uncertain — probably the worst in my lifetime (perhaps excepting 1969 before I can remember). When it’s like that, I like to think about my grandparents and what they faced and got through with the Great Depression and WWII. /1

Google’s greenhouse gas emissions have soared 48% since 2019, according to the tech giant’s annual environment report. The tech giant blamed that growth mainly on “increased data center energy consumption and supply chain emissions.”

The Constitution says that in cases of impeachment, "the party convicted shall nevertheless be liable and subject to indictment, trial, judgment and punishment, according to law." It does not except the president. But what impeachable offenses aren't covered by the new doctrine of immunity?

I'm not saying that the opinion limits impeachment. It doesn't do that. I'm saying that it renders impossible what the Constitution explicitly contemplates, which is that the same offense would be grounds for impeachment and, subsequently, for a criminal trial.

“The President of the United States would be liable to be impeached, tried, and, upon conviction of treason, bribery, or other high crimes or misdemeanors, removed from office; and would afterwards be liable to prosecution and punishment in the ordinary course of law.” couldn’t be clearer!

Easy to lose sight of the significance here, but the sitting president just gave a speech condemning the Supreme Court for a ruling that expands presidential power. It’s also a president who stands to benefit from this ruling, given that his opponent is vowing to imprison him and his family.

If the Founders had wanted this country to be a theocracy, seems like they probably would've mentioned it in the actual Constitution, right? Or if they spaced on it, maybe in the Bill of Rights a few years later? Oh, but you found a quote from one of them in a private letter? Cool. Cool cool cool.

My pet theory for the disconnect between economic indicators and perceptions is the rise of streaming. Before when $ was tight, you could not see movies or not buy CDs for a few months. Now cutting your entertainment budget means losing access to everything, and that feels unreasonable to people.

when Trump sends his forces around to deport millions of people, they will not legally be allowed to deport US citizens, and *that won't matter*. when the armed man says you have to get in a truck, you're going in the truck. and the law won't help you fast enough if it helps at all.

Here’s the thing: By sharing &udm=14 and udm14.com, you are making it harder for Google to further enshittify its search offering.

Collectively, we are putting sunlight on something they want to get rid of. It makes all of us search watchdogs.
