This is the Blue State Challenge. It's for people in blue states who feel frustrated with what's happening in red states. 1: Pick your most hated (or most loved) Red State. 2: Choose an issue you care about. 3: Find a group in that state working on that issue. 4: Support that group.

I predicted one of the first industries to do this would be healthcare, because when you are chronically ill, neurodivergent, disabled, and deaf, you see the ugly underbelly more than most.

This is predictable but so important: Pasteurizing milk kills the H5N1 bird flu virus that is circulating widely in dairy cattle. It's easy to take a 150-year-old technique that has saved countless lives for granted, but don't fool around with unpasteurized dairy products. 🧪

You know what, Biden should go on TV and say "if the Court is going to be reviewing so many administrative regulations, it's going to need to be a whole lot larger. Going to need *puts finger in the air* idk, 5 or 6 justices"

Chevron famously said, "Judges are not experts in the field, and are not part of either political branch of the Government." Today, Roberts and the other chaos agents on the court say: "Judges are the only experts in any field, and can dictate policy to either political branch of the Gov't"

So to recap, SCOTUS says: * We justices are the executive branch now * The majestic equality of the laws prohibits both rich and poor alike from sleeping under bridges * Obstructing the certification of the president after an election is, at least in isolation, very cool and very legal

i have largely stopped arguing about this on social media because it isn’t fruitful, but this finding gets to why you should be skeptical of theories that try to sideline or excise race from an explanation of the white rural turn toward reactionary politics news.cornell.edu/stories/2024...

When you & everyone you know can easily do [thing], it's easy to assume "everyone you know" = "everyone," unless you stop to think about it, which a lot of people don't. If you have ready access to whatever forms of media you want, whenever you want them, it's easy to think "who goes to libraries?"

🧵 As a former librarian, I'll add: Rich (& middle class) ppl also close libraries bc they can't conceive of the need, aka a failure of empathy. I was *constantly* asked: 1) People still go to libraries? (yes) 2) Isn't everything digitized now? (wow, no, let's examine just how how wrong that is)

Disabled people are not seen as reliable narrators of our own lives + our traits are used to demonize us or impugn our motives ... The cops in this case also seemed shocked that Karen Read got herself a good attorney. They probably figured disabled = not much $.

Wow those texts in the Karen Read trial from the lead investigator. I've been saying her disability made it easy for the cops to target her for the frame job, and there was Proctor, dropping the R word, making fun of her Crohn's & MS while searching her phone for nudes.
