Some people give their kids family names to show they have a place in an often confusing world. And some people name their kids after some weird fringe theory they currently have so their kids know they are second fiddle to their narcissistic parents.

I had abusive parents, with my father being the worst. One of the worst days of my life was when I did fight back.
I question the mental capacity of these two if they cannot predict that their behavior inevitably teaches a child that unhinged violence, not rational thinking, gives them power.
My Mom was very prone to sudden violent full-armed neck-snapping slaps across the face. It took me decades -literally decades- to stop ducking at any shadow across my head.

I don't know if it was Dobson or some other parenting guru, but my parents were told they *had* to use violence. They've since realized it was the worst thing they've done, even apologized. I needed a PsyD to explain what it taught me: that it's "normal" to hurt people you love.

Anyone who hits their children in 2024 are psychopaths. The data is in, corporal punishment is bad. It always has been. Scratch anyone who says "my parents hit me & I turned out fine" and you'll find an aggrieved adult who cannot feel empathy & is enraged when they run into people that have it.
