Watching the British election returns I feel compelled to point out that the 650 person House of Commons represents 67 million people and the 435 person House of Representatives in the United States represents 333 million. Replace the Permanent Apportionment Act of 1929. We deserve representation.

i think akhil amar reed captures something very important, which is that the roberts court rewrote article ii, which explicitly states that a president can be held criminally liable after impeachment (and which has long been understood to mean that he can be held liable after leaving office)

Anyhow the best time to address the shit was yesterday, the 2nd best time is today. Demand everyone asking for your vote to support packing the court, stop giving your resources to the police, demand public housing, healthcare, childcare, education, transit, food support and a right to privacy.

The Constitution says that in cases of impeachment, "the party convicted shall nevertheless be liable and subject to indictment, trial, judgment and punishment, according to law." It does not except the president. But what impeachable offenses aren't covered by the new doctrine of immunity?

roberts essentially ignores the purpose of separation of powers, which was not to create entirely separate spheres of action but to prevent the emergence of unchecked authority. instead, he says, separation of powers *demands* unchecked authority.

Sotomayor's dissent is on point and appropriately urgent. But I'm struck that none of the opinions acknowledge the very real political/electoral ramifications of the court's delay (the majority credits itself for an expeditious decision!) and failure to deny immunity on a single charge.

Jackson is reading from her dissent — meaning all three Democratic appointees have read from their dissent in one of the big administrative law cases decided over the past week, a clear attempt to highlight the importance of these decisions. (Not that SCOTUS lets you hear.)

Data centers are a great opportunity for states to soak big tech for taxes because they're location sensitive and have nothing but externalities (no jobs after build, basically a private utility). At best, they attract more data centers. But states have unsurprisingly been writing blank checks.
