I just finished reading “On Tyranny” by @timothysnyder.bsky.social. If you’ve never read it I do suggest you find a copy. Professor Snyder lists twenty lessons on resistance to authoritarianism using examples from 20th Century history.

worth pointing out that this complete and utter POS did vote in both 2020 and 2022, so this entire article is not only BS but a demonstrable lie disseminated by the NYT, this is yet another psy op by Sulz to rig the election for the guy who they think will get them better ratings

That feeling is why I #SharGoodNewsToo Many things are terrible, but the year we have a malaria vaccine, a shot that gives 100% HIV protection, & global carbon output is finally *falling* not rising should see a mix of headlines not 100% bad. They want despair; despair stops action #HopeIsResistance

Things are pretty fucked up and the future is uncertain — probably the worst in my lifetime (perhaps excepting 1969 before I can remember). When it’s like that, I like to think about my grandparents and what they faced and got through with the Great Depression and WWII. /1

Classic American political dialogue is premised on the idea that we share fundamental values but disagree on how best to promote them. I haven’t believed this for a while. Other than “I prefer to be alive and not dead” and “I like pudding,” I do not share values with these people.

Here's how you spin it: the Republicans ALREADY packed the court! They stole a seat in 2016, they rammed another one through at the last minute in 2020, completely contradicting their own previous arguments. We're simply trying to restore balance to the stolen court!

After the Court’s decision yesterday, I think there’s an argument from necessity for Biden seizing Trump and trying him by military tribunal, given the sudden unavailability of Article III courts. Plus, itʼs just the sort of thing they’ve authorized an active and energetic chief executive to do.

UPDATE: What is happening in France today? Left candidates who came in 3rd are dropping out of the runoffs to block the far-right. *Many* Macronists, including incumbents, are doing the same when they came in third. But... many said they won't. (I'd say about half/half right now? Deadline tmrw.)

***SCOTUS rules 6–3 that Trump is immune from prosecution for "official acts" during his presidency.
NOTE: This does not sink Trump's prosecution altogether, because as Justice Barrett noted during argument, Trump is being prosecuted for many *unofficial* acts www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/23p...

Pretty clear that the Federalist Society project to take over the courts for the far right is the most successful and consequential political effort in history. Only took them a few decades. Meanwhile, Dems are like "Let's not be hasty, blue slips serve an important function in preserving comity."

my advice to everyone is just make something analog, doesn't matter what, just create something new with your hands and brain doesn't need to be inspired, doesn't need to be good even- just making something flips switches in your brain and makes life better

Yeah it’s not like we’ll see a repeat of 1968, when the Democrats downshifted to a Vice President at a convention in Chicago that was plagued by protests against the party’s support for an unpopular foreign war and wound up creating an opening for a candidate they’d beat before. Totally different!

A POV that doesn't seem out there is there are huge parts of the Dem base that aren't likely to take kindly with Dem elites taking away their candidate after they made their choice. SC had a primary, and Biden got 95% of the vote.

I wonder how long it's going to be before a critical mass of people realise that the press basically acts as an insulating layer around the ruling class, pretending to hold them to account so they can take up the space that would otherwise be occupied by people who could do so.

Please remember 3 things today: 1) Biden team said too late that Biden had a bad cold all week. 2) Incumbent presidents traditionally do poorly in their first debates. 3) CNN is ultimately controlled by a fascist-friendly billionaire who wanted a Trump-friendly format. And got what he paid for.
