Exactly the kind of elite maneuvering that the Democratic base just loves. Great work, guys. This will turn out fine.

Yep! I'm not a Biden fan, I would LOVE to see President Harris, but the ideas to shake up the ticket at this point are half-baked and insane. Also I want to know what these people were thinking in 2020, when Biden was already a million years old and we all knew he'd be a million plus four in 2024.

Also: even if the presidential race is your main concern, these down-ballot races can have a reverse coattails effect by getting people to the polls who might not otherwise vote at all in these key states

It’s a very obscure question but I did some research and it turns out that the president who led us out of the Depression and kicked Hitler’s ass was actually in a wheelchair? Who knew?

Their biggest concern is somehow the president's hypothetical need to act decisively without having to weigh legal ramifications. Not, say, the overthrow of our entire democratic government.

I don't know how many people are screaming for a brokered convention specifically, but plenty of people are out there throwing out names that are not Harris, and I'm not sure how any of them would become the nominee at this point otherwise.

super interesting to me that Harris doesn’t just do better than Biden here but does better than most of the floated alternatives www.cnn.com/2024/07/02/p...

It's hard for any Democrat to break those numbers in this climate. The reason is that Republicans are a cult who unify against any Democrat, while the left is much more fragmented and prone to expressing their frustration with this or that candidate in a poll, even if they show up to vote later.

Yeah it’s not like we’ll see a repeat of 1968, when the Democrats downshifted to a Vice President at a convention in Chicago that was plagued by protests against the party’s support for an unpopular foreign war and wound up creating an opening for a candidate they’d beat before. Totally different!

Heartening news but extremely important to note, before getting too excited, this has only been tested in mice with a mouse-specific virus so we need to hold our horses, even though if this is proven effective in humans with human viruses that will be fucking awesome.

A few years ago, Jon Lovett floated a theory that media treats Democrats like protagonists - to be challenged, accounted, and forced to be behave in growth-oriented ways - while the GOP are treated like antagonists - immutable, expected to disrupt, thematic obstacles. Thinking about that a lot.

Worth considering: SCOTUS can get additional resources. Whichever clerk actually fucked this up is going to go on to be a district court judge through the conservative AA pipeline within ten years. And they're going to be making factual findings! On technical topics!

Yeah, I don't even like Biden, but I think any nationally known Democrat is going to be similarly unpopular, due to the fact that the right is one big cult who will hate and run a smear campaign against anyone on the left, while the left is much more fragmented and harder to unify behind one person.

I'm so annoyed at the Democrats in 2020 who insisted that only Biden could beat Trump even though he was already a million years old and would obviously be a million plus four when it came time to run again. (The idea of purposefully trying to elect a one-term president was always colossally dumb.)

The bigger question is whether Black voters would accept a scenario like that. Passing over the first Black woman VP would alienate a significant part of the base, with potentially disastrous consequences.

I think there are a lot of people who are still so tuned out that they don't realize how unhinged Trump sounds and/or have warped views of Biden, and those people could benefit from watching. Probably doubtful many of them will, though.

The future is terror.

Funded by Heritage Foundation, the same group creating Project 2025, a GOP activist is snooping into the background of federal employees, creating a Trump enemies list.

With Schedule F, they will fire those officials.
