I can't believe we, as a species, invented bread and cheese - two things that require multiple, complicated steps as well as microbe husbandry - and this is the best political system we've got
I don’t disagree with your point, but to be fair, cheese is just leaving the milk out and taking increasingly bolder risks with “I dare you to eat this, Clarg”/“fuck it, I’ll eat it, I’m tired”, both highly gremliny thought processes that absolutely transcend the ages
A ham and cheese sandwich, complete with a dash of mustard and a lettuce leaf, is a true technological marvel that has no right existing in a world like ours.
In Brazil the vote of the majority wins, we have more than 2 political parties and our electronic voting booths provide us with accurate and 100% safe results less than 5 hours after voting is closed. I feel really sorry for the people in the USA who didn't challenge their obsolete system.
Yeah but a lot of bread and cheese development was accidental and resulted in a lot of people dying from food poisoning, and we got what’s left. Sort of like the political system.
Of the two major forms of modern democracy—presidential and parliamentary democracy (we’re ignoring nuance and hybrids here)—, America invented the second best.
Only if you're a US or UK citizen who is enrolled to vote.
The rest of us democracies have mostly moved onto multi-party, preferential and proportional voting systems that decrease that likelihood of complete crazies or megalomaniacs, being elected.
Pretty sure both of those were us accidentally leaving shit out too long and the 'frat-boy' of the group tasting them on a dare; which feels more like humanity in general.
See those were invented by people who had to solve their own problems and figure shit out or personally suffer the consequences. Unfortunately, we are now led by a ruling class that is insulated from the suffering their incompetence (and/or malice) causes.
Most stable*
Not best. stable. It's only best if you believe having 2500 veto points is good and that the stability of a system matters more than implementation of a given administrations platform.
The thing is, people know exactly how to make it better. It's really not that difficult. But the other side have a vested interest in keeping it bad, because in a system that's actually fair they would never win again. (The fun thing is this is true whether you're talking about the US or the UK).
I mean, yeah. People have tried to improve on representative democracy in lots of ways but all the other ways really ARE worse. This unironically is the best political system we've got. 🤷♂️
Prospect of ever changing the political system is negligible as Americans truly believe that whatever they have or do is, objectively, the best there is.
“Democracy is the worst form of government – except for all the others that have been tried." - Winston Churchill
I don't necessarily agree with the quote, but it felt relevant. And as it's attributed to Churchill, there is a good chance that it is apocryphal.
Shit, Terns invented transarctic migration. Ants were manipulating mold and bacteria before the dumbest primates crawled. Don't ask me about wasps (ok, ask me about wasps if you dare.)
Coffee. Take a berry, throw away the fruit, keep the pit, burn it, crush it to powder, boil the powder, drink the water. Much like how we choose leaders, nothing about that process makes sense.
"Always remember bread and cheese. When everything else looks bad, remember bread and cheese and you'll be all right"
William Saroyan, "Papa Youre Crazy".
This is what having a political system writing nearly 250 years ago with no updates gets you. The biggest mistake this country ever made was not rewriting the constitution after the civil war.
Não acredito que nós, como espécie, inventamos o pão e o queijo - duas coisas que requerem passos múltiplos e complicados, bem como a criação de micróbios - e este é o melhor sistema político que temos
Now we have bread so refined it’s not even good for your digestion and tasteless fatty single flavour cheese (in two colours) that is the staple diet for most americans. Lifespans are shrinking for various reasons. Poor diet is one.
I'm pretty sure those who invented bread and cheese were much more advanced than those who invented that supposedly "best" political system you're alluded to.
And if this is the political system I believe you're alluding to, it's never been the best at anything. Pretty shitty system overall.
