100%, it’s rotten all the way down to the local political machines, and only our small independent media outlets cover that with any seriousness. And national party leadership is now all from here. Terrible
And Red State Democratic parties keep getting savvier and more strategic. Pretty interesting to watch. Dems in MO single-handedly killed a ballot initiative change (similar to OH) before it had to go to voters.
Look as someone who is a NYer I think it is important to understand that the D party in NY exists to maintain power, that both parties exist to enrich their cronies at the state trough and that most of this happens through completely unaccountable quasi governmental state agencies such as the MTA.
This is why I distinguish “a New York democrat” from just democrats.
My New York dem friends were all in a tizzy about Nikki Haley like it was fucking noble to support a GOP who isn’t Trump.

It's fucking insaaaaane how shit they are! The legal weed rollout alone has been a disaster despite having many examples to learn from. Absolutely tripping over their dicks after passing bail reform. Our Medicaid is pretty solid though in my experience.

A tragic and abject mess! Given the partisan composition of the state you’d think NY would be an incubator of a lot of cutting edge left leaning/progressive policy ideas. Instead it’s nothing! Rebecca Traister wrote a great long read about Cuomo that highlighted a lot of the dysfunction.
As a New Jerseyan I like to point this out to my New York friends. Jersey Dems have been far more successful at enacting progressive policy but New Yorkers keep acting like they’re the more progressive state because of vibes.
In other times one might think the Republicans gaining power for a while might have a salutary effect, but...we had Pataki and not much changed, I don't think the current crazies like Lee Zeldin &c. are going to be a new broom sweeping clean
California state Dems have long been on my list of worst given how they’ve often used their power to protect wealthy liberals, but they’ve gotten much better in the past couple of years.

I moved to NY from Colorado, where the state govt has been really functional the last several years, and it's very frustrating dealing with local and state govt here.
NY is essentially a one party state at that level. In any other state it would be a republican supermajority, and it still is but they call themselves democrats

they're pouring so much money into a race in my state assembly district to knock off Sarahana Shrestha basically in revenge for her taking out an incumbent two years ago. it's infuriating.
As an 11-year NYC resident, it certainly feels this way. Sickening combination of cowardly shrinking from any fight with the (very weak) GOP and gleeful stomping on progressive priorities, plus extreme status quo bias that's totally inappropriate to conditions. I hate them so much.
Reminds me how much better the DFL in MN is compared to the rest of the Democratic Party. There is literally no excuse for the rest of the parties in deep blue states to push all the things the DFL is doing in their states.
as a reluctant NY Dem (only registered to vote so I could vote in primaries), YES. I’m in upstate in a “liberal” town that loves our cops and civility over actual betterment for the people here and I’m generally more angry at our mainstream dems than the repubs who at least are acting as i expect.
