When I see this, I have to believe that Ian knows how stupid this is, and is intentionally acting stupid to farm engagement for Twitter Bucks. Kinda like those poorly written math problems on Facebook that have multiple answers.

Cheong is an idiot, but the iOS calculator does have a UI issue - after typing 50, then plus, then 50, it displays 100, giving the user the impression that if they type x 2 =, the number they see (100) will be multiplied by 2. PEMDAS happens in retrospect, which is legitimately confusing.
I think the worst part about it is that he felt super smart posting this. Like he caught them & was smarter than Apple. & then, the followers that had to be like "he's got Apple on the ropes, now!" An avalanche of stupid is still an avalanche.

I do have a hot take here: order of operations is dumb, instead we should focus on a removal of ambiguity.

I’m not gonna read through all the comments so this may have been mentioned previously. The calculator is wrong BUT the calculator is doing is taking the equation as an “order of operations”. So it’s multiplying first before it adds. . 50 * 2 = 100 + 50 = 150
Oh no I hate it but I think he's right. The iphone calculator mimics a pocket calculator in most ways -- crucially, its display operates exactly like a basic 6-function. Those calculators don't have buffers and evaluate operations sequentially. The iphone calculator probably should too. It's bad UI.
I have 50 apples. I got another 50 apples. Then doubled the number of apples I had (two complete word problems equalling 200)
I have 50 apples and I double that amount of apples and then add 50 more (one complete word problem equaling 150 apples and following order of operations).
OK, but the spotlight calculator was actually wrong for me once. I verified it using multiple other systems. I unfortunately don't remember what it was, but it had some sort of exponent in it and it was WILDLY incorrect.
Actually, I LOATHE the order of operations; nobody has ever been able to explain the benefits of PEMDAS to me.
Left-to-right is intuitive cuz it's how we read, and if we need something calculated first, that's why the Gud Lawd invented parentheses.

So we went from these guys claiming in 2020 that DEI and CRT are telling people that 2+2=5 and that DEI and CRT should leave math alone, to now saying that in fact 50+50*2=200 and that math is stupid. It's the circle of life.
Apparently Cheong is unaware that when you get the 150, you hand the calculator to your friend upside down, and it spells out OSI and you both have a good laugh. ("Ha ha! I can't believe I let you OSI me -again-!")
Seriously, on a real calculator, you tap a key to instruct it to perform the next operation on the result of the previous one. And you can also use parenthesis when necessary.
